Lynn Edwin Coufal, 97, of Houston and Forney, Texas, passed away on March 31, 2025. Lynn, the fourth of five children, was born into a farming family on November 29, 1927 at Cooks Point Texas near Caldwell in Burleson County, to the late Emil Coufal and Mary Prazak Coufal.
Lynn, an avid deer hunter, had a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in every moment spent in God’s beautiful creation. Whether offshore fishing in the Gulf, sitting on the porch of his beach house in Surfside TX, birdwatching with quiet admiration, or simply finding a solitary rocking chair outside, he was always at home under open skies. Lynn joined the United States Navy February 11, 1946, and spent 14 months on Guam as part of an occupational force. Lynn was granted an honorable discharge from the US Navy, after which he returned to the family home in Velasco, Texas and finished his last semester in High School. Lynn met Dolly Spiller that year and was married in 1949. Lynn began working at the Shell Chemical Plant in Deer Park Texas where he worked until his retirement.
In 1951, Lynn became a Christian while attending a Billy Graham movie at a church in Pasadena. Lynn served as a deacon at Southmore Baptist Church in Pasadena Texas, and at Second Baptist Church in Pasadena. Lynn eventually became a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Pasadena where he was department director for a senior adult Bible study class for many years. One of Lynn’s other passions was traveling. He and his sister Taffy enjoyed taking cruises together including trips on the Mediterranean Sea, and an Alaskan cruise. Lynn also took trips with his church including a trip to China.
Lynn was the last member of his immediate family to pass away. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Mary Prazak Coufal, his two sisters Annie Lee Phelps and Taffy Vinson and his two brothers Eddie and Clarence Coufal.
Lynn is survived by his two children, Cindy Coufal Mangrum and husband Karl, and son Jeff Coufal and wife Vyonne.
