Joseph Sheehan, Jr., well-known as Jay, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following a two year illness. He was born Wednesday, December 11, 1935 in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Mabel Kidd Sheehan and passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Lake Jackson at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 13 days. Mr. Sheehan was a graduate of Little Rock High School in 1954 and then received a Bachelor’s Degree, from Murray State University, in Chemistry and Math in 1960. He married Wanda Jackson in Paris, Tennessee in 1959. His career was centered at Dow Chemical Co. in computer process control, from where he retired in 1995. He was an avid gardener and was a member of the Men’s Garden Club of Lake Jackson for many years and also held membership with the Houston Rose Society. He enjoyed fishing with friends and especially his sons. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1954 until 1956 and was stationed in Korea in 1954. He was a volunteer with the local Junior Achievement and coached little league baseball for several years. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Jackson since 1970. He served on many committees and taught Sunday School. Avid travelers, Jay and his wife Wanda saw much of the world. Otherwise, his retirement years were spent applying his considerable skills to home improvement and to his passion for fishing including fly-in trips to Alaska and Canada. Mr. Sheehan is preceded in death by his parents. Missing his presence are his wife, Wanda Sheehan of Lake Jackson; sons, Greg Sheehan and wife Sheri Sheehan of Pearland, Mike Sheehan of Lake Jackson; sisters, Barbara Hester of Houston, Patty Christofferson of Houston, Texas, along with their families; grandchildren, Savanna Sheehan and Cole Sheehan. Jay was well-loved by friends, too, many of whom were fellow members of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, July 27, 2012, from 6 until 8 pm at Restwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Lake Jackson with Reverend Chad Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Park. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Joseph Sheehan Jr.
