Janice Marie Archerd was born in Tyler, Smith County, Texas on May 27, 1945 to Laura “Fern” and Cullen Curtis. Janice is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Guy, her children, Guyon Robert Archerd, Vickie Fagan and husband Vic, Curtis Brightwell and wife Mande, Jason Brightwell, and Christi Ortiz and husband Victor, and grandchildren (and their spouses), and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Sue Snow and husband John. How she loved her family!
Janice was the epitome of love. She was so patient and kind with her family and strangers alike. She was a great listener, whether just talking about daily happenings, reminiscing about past times, or trying to help others with life’s struggles. She was so easy to love.
She was the love of her husband’s life. They made a wonderful team! Together they were two pieces of the same whole. She will be missed every minute of every day.
She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow. Whether it was boy scouts, motorcycles, baseball, golf, dance, choir, projects, graduations, births, and marriages—she could be counted on to be present, if not in person, then in spirit.
Her hobbies were spending time with family, cooking, quilting, watching westerns (especially John Wayne movies and James Arness in Gunsmoke), photography, road trips, and Christmas. Oh how she loved Santa! Every gift she wrapped was given with attention to details, paper, and a bow with ribbons. She had cards for all seasons and occasions to send to her loved ones. She also kept all the cards she received. She collected all types of pretty boxes. Wood, tin, glass, paper—it did not matter, she loved them all. She also collected “special” rocks. She liked garage sales, bingo, and playing board games. She liked her curios around her so she could look at them.
Her favorite poem was the “Serenity Prayer” by Reinhold Niebuhr:
‘God grant me the serenity
To accept things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.’
Janice left this worldly home on August 1, 2019 following several years of poor health. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to The Shriners Hospital for Children (Houston) or the charity of your choice.
