Jane Abbott Plunkett went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2025, after a long illness at the age of 74. She was born, along with her twin sister Jean, on January 18, 1951, to the late David Abbott and Virgie Abbott, nee Lind, in Victoria, Texas.
Jane was a proud member of Victoria High School’s graduating class of 1969. She attended the trade school Control Data Institute in New York City and attained an associate degree in computer programming in 1970.
After returning to Texas, she met and married David O. Plunkett in 1972. Jane and David lived in Danbury the first five years of marriage then built their home in Lake Jackson and moved in just before the birth of their daughter, Kristin.
In 1984, Jane began her career with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Lake Jackson. She enjoyed the day-to-day interactions with her customers and would form many friendships from completing her daily route. After retiring with 20 years of service, Jane’s love of nature and birdwatching led her to volunteer for the Friends of Brazoria Wildlife Refuges and serve as silent auction coordinator for their annual Migration Celebration for many years.
Jane is survived by David Plunkett, her daughter Kristin “Krissy” Plunkett of Lake Jackson, her sister Fay Eilers of Victoria, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents David & Virgie Abbott, brothers David Abbott, Jr, John Lind Abbott, Van James Abbott and Donnie Abbott, and her sisters Bonnie Jones, Betty Abbott and Jean Farris.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 7th from 5-8pm. A Celebration of Jane’s Life will be Tuesday, April 8th at 11am. Both viewing and service will be held at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Drive, Clute, Texas. Graveside service and burial will be taking place at 3pm at Crescent Valley Cemetery in Victoria, Texas.
