It's been a long time, but one thing I'll always remember is my mother, Yvette Patterson, jokingly complaining about getting some flavor of B in Harvey's math class when she decided to go back to school in the early 1990s – as I recall, her only B on her way to a degree. Although she's been gone a long time now herself, I am thinking she appreciated that he didn't go easy just because they had already been friends outside of the classroom. And now, having worked in higher education for awhile myself, I can appreciate that skill and professionalism too. I'm certain he's missed by students, colleagues, friends, family alike.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I met Harvey when I worked at Brazosport College.  He was so kind and everyone loved him.  He will be missed!

Harvey old friend, so many adventures. In teaching: you worked so hard on how to apply Jiame Escalante’s methods to get students to conquer their math fears and foibles. You never let a student down. You taught me how to teach and care for students from my beginnings when we officed next door. What discussions we had about pedagogy and students. In fishing: from our honey holes on Tit-u-ta-tum and the Dow Reservoir to sheared pins and rowing across Christmas Bay after dark; late night fish cleanings and broken axles on Blue Water Highway to your Big Red and the best nap ever at the mouth of Oyster Creek. In living: sharing our children’s upbringing (he doted on Donna and Gail Marie), our garage mechanics, and astute advice on so so many things. I will never forget all your stories. You live on in many of us with your teaching, your advice, and your friendship. 

Harvey always took the time to listen and to share. I will always remember our early morning conversations over coffee in the faculty lounge.  It was a common sight to see Harvey in his office working with a student explaining a math problem.  He made students feel comfortable and welcome. He was a teacher of math and of students.

I am 55 now. I had Mr Yarborough during my time as a student at Brazosport in 1986-1988.

I’m very sad to hear of Mr. Yarborough’s passing.  God bless you Mr. Yarborough.  I was so math phobic and you helped me be successful with math.  Thank you for the countless tutoring sessions where you spent so much time with me helping me conquer my math demons.  Never, ever making me feel like I was frustrating you or you wanted to shake me silly for not understanding.  You were always so patient and kind.  I am no longer math challenged and I owe that to you.  You were a wonderful math teacher.  Thank you so much for helping me.  I’ll never forget your contribution to my nursing career.  You
 helped me be successful.  I’ll never forget you.  Thank you for all your help.  

Awesome person and an awesome teacher. Helped me build my confidence and helped me succeed while under his tutelage.  Thank you Mr. Yarborough. You will be missed by many!!!

Don't think of him as gone away his journey's just begun; life holds so many facets this earth is only one. 
Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness could really pass away.

Harvey Yarborough was an amazing teacher.  He helped me as I struggled through my math classes.  If it wasn't for his help, I might not be the MSW that I am today.  I have fond memories of sitting in his office weekly - but he guided me through, of which I'm so thankful.

Mr. Yarborough was one of my favorite math teachers at BCC.  He was an excellent teacher and a good man. I am sorry for your loss. 
I went on to become a math teacher an now even a principal. I appreciate the influence he had in my life.

For twenty plus years, I had the privilege of learning from Harvey as a colleague and friend, from teaching techniques to fishing tips.  Harvey taught me, not how to find answers, but rather, how to ask questions.  I miss our interesting, coffee stained conversations.  Rest easy my friend.

A vertical character, a devoted professor and an enjoyable friend and colleague, always ready to support you; this was Harvey and his memory will always be in our souls and minds. Rest in peace! Condolence to his beloved family.

Harvey always had his door open for his colleagues and his students.  He will be missed. 

Harvey and I were terrible fishermen but we solved a lot of the world's problems in his fishing boat. Too bad we didn't share our solutions with the rest of the world. His friendship was a treasure. Rest in peace my friend.

I worked with Harvey for over 15 years.  He was a great coworker and always kind to  me.  He will be missed.  

The epitome of what a teacher should be - dedicated to his students' success and a valuable colleague.

Harvey was a determined educator, with a lifelong passion to inspire young people to understand pursue Mathematics. He will be greatly missed. 

Harvey was an amazing mentor. He worked harder than any person I've ever known to help students learn, thrive and grow. I will always be grateful for his gentle guidance and strong leadership.
