Gonzalo T. Garcia, 85, of Freeport, Texas passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Brazosport Regional Hospital. Gonzalo was born January 10, 1928 in Freeport, Texas to Lalo Garcia and Margaret Mata and was employed by Dow Chemical before he retired in 1986. Gonzalo had a kind heart and never met a stranger. He was best described by his acquaintances as “a good man”. He served as the matriarch of the Garcia family. He was the rock that so many generations could hold on to. He was a leader who built strong character in everyone he helped raise. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His greatest joy in life was his family. He will be greatly missed by all that were blessed to know him. Gonzalo is preceded in death by his parents, Lalo Garcia and Margaret Mata; and sister, Esther Garcia. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Garcia; sons, Gonzalo S. Garcia and wife, Janie, of Houston; J.C. Garcia and wife, Linda, of Richwood; Marty Garcia of Pearland; daughters, Mary Anne Ramos of Freeport; Esther Ramos and husband, Rafael of Clute; 12 grandchildren; Michelle, Michael, Ruben, Jason, Rafael Jr., Miranda, Nikki, Roland, Cody, Marty, Paige and Andy; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also included are brothers Pete, Julio, Edward, Arthur, Oscar, and David Garcia; sisters Virginia Tobias, Beatrice Garcia, Connie Moreno, and Margaret Armstrong.
