Gary was born May 3, 1967 in Kingsville, Texas to Ronald and Mary Jane Harmond. Gary graduated from Taylor High School in 1985, and received a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Texas Austin in 1989. Gary married Cynthia Lynn Kirven on July 8, 1989. They were blessed with four children during their 32 ½ years of marriage. Throughout his employment, Gary worked at DESTEC Energy, Dynegy, Global Energy, Inc, and Dow Chemical. For his last position, 8 years, he was at DSM Nutritional Products in Freeport. Gary and Cynthia were members of First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson where they raised their family. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, music, and most of all woodworking with his children.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents and his baby, Heather. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia of Lake Jackson, Tx; son: Scott of Lake Jackson, Tx; son: Keith of Amarillo, Tx; daughter: Grace of Lake Jackson, Tx; daughter: Jennifer of Lake Jackson, Tx; parents Ron and Mary Jane of Meridian, Tx; brother: Richard and his wife Cassie of Katy, Tx; sister: Rhonda of Meridian, Tx; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Gary was a teddy bear. He was an honest and kind husband, father, and friend and will be greatly missed. He also loved torturing his kids with his jokes.
Celebration of life will be held at Restwood Funeral Home of Clute, Texas at 1 pm on January 15, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gary’s name to cancer research or St. Jude’s, as he believed children should not be subjected to cancer.
