Flora Belle Jones, the eldest sibling born February 6, 1931 in Pleasant Hill, Alabama to the late Walter and Cleotha Smiley. She went to her heavenly place with Jesus on the morning of October 27, 2014 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws: Willie and Beulah Jones, her brother: Samuel Smiley, her brothers-in-law: John Densmore and Benjamin Jones and her sisters-in-law: Mary Smiley and Hazel Hawthorne brothers-in-law Nathaniel Hawthorne, James Watson and Albert Baldwin; sister-in-law Bobbie Jones.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Curtis Jones on May 5, 1972.
At an early age she was baptized. She was a faithful member for over 40 years at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Freeport, Texas. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 30 years. She was Eucharist minister with the church for about 10 years. She enjoyed doing crafts and was an accomplished seamstress. For many years at Easter she would do Easter eggs for her church, her daughter’s church and a neighbor church as well until her health started to decline, but would still donate or contribute in other ways.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories loving husband of 42 years, Curtis Jones, her only child, Lalita (Ronald) Simple. Granddaughter: Alicia Williams (Roderick) and Grandson: Malcolm L. Bonner (Serena) and great-grandchildren: Kurtis J. Williams, Tr’Chelle Harkless, Torrian Harkless and Noah Bonner. Siblings: Lorena (Arthur) Killion of Maryland, Willie (Arzelia) Smiley and Queen (William) Jones of Alabama, Pearl (Gable) Eugene of Arizona, Bettie Densmore of South Carolina, Charles Smiley and Wilma Buckley of Illinois, Laurene Jackson of North Carolina and Ralph (Susan) Smiley of Florida Ella Washington, Pearl Fails; in-laws Annie Watson, Enoch Jones, Juanita Baldwin, Willie Jones, Samuel (Adrian) Jones, Warren (Ruby) Hawthorne Jones all of Florida. A Host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss her.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 2, at Restwood Funeral Home with a rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 3, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas. Active pallbearers will be Malcolm Bonner, Ronald Simple, Dwayne Williams, Kurtis Williams, Roderick Jackson and Tito Harkless. Honorary pallbearers will be Torrian Harkless, Willie Smiley, Charles Smiley, William Jones Arthur Killion, Noah Bonner, Gable Eugene, Samuel Jones, Willie Jones and Enoch Jones.
