Dell was born to the late Waymon Nelson Lansdown and Ivy Ann Rose Lansdown in Jayton, TX on September 24, 1920. Blessed with a large and loving family, she and her twin sister, Nell, were the youngest to four older brothers – Emmett, Clarence, Shorty, and W.N. “Bill”, who all greeted her in the heavenly kingdom.
She was immersed in the Christian community from an early age, which helped shape her unwavering faith in God. Dell was a Sunday school teacher, secretary, and treasurer for the Congregational Methodist Church in Clute, TX for 24 years.
Dell was a beautician who managed two beauty shops. Even after retirement, she continued to be a beautician for loved ones. A loving mother and friend, Dell was an excellent cook and enjoyed gathering at her kitchen table with a cup of coffee for a good conversation. She made sure no one left her house hungry. Camping with family provided Dell with great joy.
She married her best friend, John “Jack” Massey, on April 26, 1941 and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years in August 1997. Dell is survived by her son Jimmy Massey & partner Amy; daughter Johnna Cox & husband Donnie; five grandchildren, Jennifer Smith & husband Chris, Janell Massey & partner Bill, Tiffanie Koenig & husband Robert, Chase Henderson, and Justin Cox & wife Shelby; nine great grandchildren, Taeghan, Melodi, Raeleigh, Kyndall, Grant, Karsynn, Zoe, Autumn and Brantley; and her sister-in-law Clydia Massey. Dell is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Brazos Pointe Fellowship, 679 Hwy 332 West, Lake Jackson, TX. A funeral service celebrating her life will be presided by Thomas Carter at Brazos Pointe Fellowship on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Following the service, graveside service will be held at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Drive, Clute, TX. A reception for the family and close friends will be held at the Cox residence immediately following graveside service.
