Elida nació en Brownsville, Texas, el 11 de enero de 1947, hija de los difuntos Marcelino Olguín y María Cayetana-Aguillon.
Elida se casó con Hipólito “Polo” Martínez-Tovar el 15 de diciembre de 1961 y compartieron una vida juntos durante 59 años.
A Elida le encantaba cocinar, pescar, coser, viajar, y pasar tiempo con su familia. Encontraba una gran alegría en reunir a su familia, recibiendo a menudo a sus seres queridos en su casa para carnes asadas y emotivas reuniones familiares. Le encantaba cocinar para sus hijos y nietos, preparando con cariño platillos como ceviche fresco, menudo, arroz con leche y sus adoradas enchiladas potosinas. Su hogar era un lugar donde la familia reía y se reunía, lleno de preciados recuerdos que siempre atesorarán.
Se bautizó el 21 de junio de 1990 como testigo de Jehová y se mantuvo como una sierva dedicada durante toda su vida, abrazando las enseñanzas de Jehová.
A Elida le precedieron en la muerte su esposo “Polo,” padres, y tres hermanos.
Le sobreviven sus hijos: María Thomas, Graciela (Moisés) Negrete, Dora (Misael Hugo) Uribe, Silvia (Carlos) Ramírez, Elena Armstrong e Hipólito (Melissa) Tovar, Jr.; diez nietos; once bisnietos; su hermana Rosalinda Velásquez, numerosos familiares y amigos; y su querida mascota Chiquis.
Elida era conocida por su gran corazón y su espíritu generoso. Siempre estaba dispuesta a ayudar a los necesitados y era muy querida. Ella disfrutaba compartir con otros su esperanza de un futuro mejor que aprendió de la Biblia. Su pasión por la cocina y la pesca alegraba a muchos, y sus viajes crearon recuerdos entrañables con su familia. La fe de Elida en Jehová era inquebrantable, y sus creencias le brindaron gran consuelo y fortaleza. Su memoria será atesorada por su familia, amigos y todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerla.

Elida Tovar, 78, of Freeport, TX fell asleep in death on April 4th, 2025.
Elida was born in Brownsville, TX on January 11, 1947 to the late Marcelino Olguin and Maria Cayetana-Aguillon.
Elida married Hipolito “Polo” Martinez-Tovar on December 15, 1961 and shared a life together for 59 years.
Elida loved to cook, fish, sew, travel, and spend time with her family. Elida found great joy in bringing her family together, often welcoming loved ones into her home for large barbecues and heartfelt family gatherings. She took pride in cooking for her children and grandchildren, lovingly preparing meals such as fresh ceviche, menudo, arroz con leche, and her well-loved enchiladas potosinas. Her home was a place for family to laugh and be together filled with cherished memories that her family will always hold close.
She was baptized on June 21, 1990, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained a dedicated servant throughout her life embracing Jehovah’s teachings.
Elida is preceded in death by her husband “Polo”, parents, and 3 brothers.
Elida is survived by her children, Maria Thomas, Graciela (Moises) Negrete, Dora (Misael Hugo) Uribe, Silvia (Carlos) Ramirez, Elena Armstrong, and Hipolito (Melissa) Tovar, Jr; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, sister Rosalinda Velasquez, numerous relatives and friends, and her beloved dog Chiquis.
Elida was known for her warm heart and generous spirit. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and was deeply loved. Her passion for cooking and fishing brought joy to many, and her travels created cherished memories with her family. Elida's faith in Jehovah was unwavering, and she found great comfort and strength in her beliefs. She enjoyed sharing the hope for the future that she learned from the Bible. Her memory will be treasured by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.

A visitation for Elida will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 4:30 AM to 8:00 PM at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 West Plantation Dr. Clute, TX 77531. A funeral service will occur Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Restwood Memorial Park.
