Born on March 25, 1935, Dora was raised in Freeport, TX. On July 28, 1952, she married Serafin “Chico” Delgado and they settled in Clute, TX where they raised their six children. Dora was a pillar of her community. In 1976, she opened Delgado’s Trading Post. As a business owner, she cared more about ensuring people had what they needed over making a profit. She often donated items to families in need or to raise money for her church. Dora was steadfast in her faith and was a long-time member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church.
Dora enjoyed cooking and dancing, but most of all her favorite pastime was playing cards. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family. In addition to her children, Dora mothered countless others. She opened her door to anyone in need of a place to stay or to someone who simply needed a place to spend the holidays. Dora not only made everyone feel welcomed, but she also made them feel loved. It was her giving spirit that she will be remembered for most. She taught us all how to live by the way she lived. We will miss her dearly but will do our best to carry on her legacy.
Dora was reunited in heaven with her husband, Chico; granddaughters, Yvette and Amanda; sister Tillie Hernandez, brother Adam Jauregui and Hannah Mendoza. Dora is survived by her daughters, Bea Gutierrez, Carmen Martinez, Theresa Cienfuegos (Cesar), Patricia Ortiz (Roy), Delores Garcia (John), her only son Michael Matz, twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers, sisters and Roy Mendoza.
Visitation will be at Dignity Funeral Chapel in Clute, Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. followed by an interment at Restwood Memorial Park.
