The first of two children born to John Allen and Merle Frances (Williams) Waldrop, Dixie was born October 10, 1935, in Abilene, Texas. She met her future husband Joseph "Gerald" Broesche while they were in junior high. They married in 1950 and enjoyed a happy marriage that lasted over 60 years.
Dixie and Gerald raised their three children in Lake Jackson, TX. Dixie was a very involved member of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson, working in the library for 30 years and volunteering in Sunday School. She and Gerald loved their time spent at Mo Ranch in Hunt, TX, making annual visits in the summer for the week-long Crafts Conference, many times with grandchildren. There she learned the art of stained glass, silver jewelry-making, basket weaving, copper enameling, and quilting. She was a wonderful cook and spent much time in the kitchen preparing food for her beloved family, especially for many holidays spent together in Lake Jackson. After moving to Dallas with Gerald in 2009 to be closer to family (and escape the hurricanes), she joined Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and volunteered in their library. Dixie also led a weekly Bible study group at The Reserve where she lived.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, brother John, daughter Susan, sister-in-law Sandra Broesche, and daughter-in-law Linda Broesche.
Dixie is survived by son, Allen Broesche, and daughter, Janet Thurman; grandchildren, Amy Leonard (Derek), Jennifer Nail (Chris), Pamela Singleton (Jeremy), Emily Smith (Eric), Brian Thurman (Amanda), and Matthew Broesche; her great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Michelle, Taryn, and Caroline Leonard, Meredith, Dylan, and Coen Nail, Abigail, Caleb, and Tanner Singleton, Ben and Luke Thurman, Cameron and Connor Smith; brother-in-law Edwin Broesche; and nieces Rachel Henderson (Hugh) and Rebecca Darnell (Scott).
