Diana Lucia Garcia Galvan of Waco, formerly of Brazoria County, went to her heavenly home on Monday, January 11, 2021. Diana was born July 18, 1953 in Freeport, Texas to Maria Consuela Perez de Garcia and Guillermo Guerra Garcia. Diana grew up in Freeport and soon after graduating high school, she married and began raising her family. Diana worked for many years in social services and retired from United Way of Greater Houston in 2016. After her retirement, she moved from the Houston area to Waco where she worked for Bentwood Realty and volunteered with various organizations, including the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo and China Spring Band Boosters.
Diana was an incredibly proud mother and grandmother. She spent countless hours cheering on her children in sports, helping her son at livestock shows, and traveling far and wide for her daughter’s horse competitions. Later in life, she continued her supportive role as her two oldest granddaughters competed in sports and cheer and showed livestock as well. She also enjoyed spending time with her two youngest grandchildren and relished their visits. Diana was also deeply rooted in her faith and had a true servant’s heart. While living in Houston, she volunteered alongside her daughter as a prayer partner for the Stephen Ministry at Lakewood Church, ministering to those in need. She had an unabashed love for the Catholic faith and was a founding member of the Catholic Daughters chapter at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brazoria, Texas. She faithfully made several pilgrimages to the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle, most recently on Christmas Eve of 2020. Diana’s “love language” was food, and she loved to cook and always made sure that her family and friends had plenty to eat. She was also an avid artist and crafter, painting pictures and creating beautiful wreaths. Her talents were many, but her love for her family, friends, and the Lord were boundless.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers Paul Botello, Hector Botello, and Leonard Botello. She is survived by her son Gerardo “Bubba” Galvan and wife Kim of China Spring and her daughter Stephanie Nance and husband Jonathan of Liverpool.
She is also survived by granddaughters Isabella and Gracie Galvan of China Spring, granddaughter Annie Nance of Liverpool, and grandson Wyatt Nance of Liverpool. Diana leaves behind her siblings Yolanda Botello De La Garza, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Susie Howell, twin brother Johnny Garcia, Willie Garcia, and Rosa Garcia Sermeno, along with their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
We are at peace knowing that she is no longer in pain, and we are certain that she experienced a glorious homecoming, welcomed by family and by our Lord and Savior. Her final words “Thank you, Jesus” and “I love you” were sweet reminders of her never-ending faith and her unending love for her family. While we rejoice in knowing that we will see her again, we mourn her earthly passing.
