Debra Jo Crawford Payne, age 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends Saturday, June 29, 2013. She fought a long, hard, battle against Lupus and Scleroderma for many years. Debbie was born, Saqturday, February 20, 1954 to Rupert Wayne Crawford and Velma Rivers Dwire Crawford in Nacogdoches, Texas. Debbie and her family moved to Freeport in 1956. She attended Velasco Elementary, Freeport Junior High and was a 1972 graduate of Brazosport High School. She received her BAT degree from Sam Houston State University in 1976. She taught two years in the Aldine Independent School District and 28 years with the Brazosport Independent School District; five years at Brazosview and 23 years at T. W. Ogg Elementary. Debbie was a member of the Freeport Church of Christ and was involved with numerous civic activities along with her husband, Jim, while he owned KBRZ radio station. Debbie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Wayne and Velma Crawford. She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, Jim T. Payne of Lake Jackson; sister, and best friend, Jeannene Webster & her husband Gary of Lake Jackson; special nephews, Gary Wayne Webster & his wife Pam and their children, Erin, Darbi and Hanna of Alvin, Texas; Bruce Webster & his wife Dametria of Flint, Texas; 3 stepchildren, Danny Boze & his wife Carolyn of Angleton, Chester Payne of Katy, Sheryl Teasley & her husband Gerry of Katy; daughter-in-law, Beth Payne of Katy; 3 step grandchildren, Shannon, Colleen and Kelli Payne of Katy. Also surviving her are her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Regina & Ronnie Symons of Kemah along with numerous other nieces and nephews.
