Charlotte Nadine Ainsworth

Charlotte Nadine Ainsworth, of Lake Jackson Texas, was born on August 25, 1935, in Dew, Texas, to Thomas Edward Webb and Minnie Rebecca (Long) Webb. She passed from this earth on June 10, 2019, at the age of 83. Nadine married the love of her life, Charles L. “Chuck” Ainsworth in Biloxi, Mississippi on June 13, 1953 and was happily married almost 60 years.

Nadine grew up in the Buffalo, Texas area during the Depression. She helped with her two younger brothers, while her parents worked. As a teenager, her parents moved to the Brazosport area, where her father worked for Dow Chemical and they lived in what became known as “camp chemical”. Nadine, known as Dina, attended and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1953.

She met her husband Chuck on the front steps of the church of Christ in Clute, Texas, where he was visiting with his aunt. Nadine would quickly tell you that is where their love story and future began. She proudly served as a military wife as Chuck served in the United States Air Force. While Chuck was deployed to Japan from 1953-1954, Nadine lived with friends in Dallas where she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and frugally saved up enough money to purchase a car to give Chuck upon his return. As the story goes, the Air Force was due to re-deploy Chuck, however, due to the birth of their first child, Nadine wrote a letter to the Governor, who then rescinded the order. This was Nadine, an independent spirit whose first priority was her family.

Nadine and Chuck returned to the Brazosport area, where Chuck worked for Dow Chemical and she was a stay-at-home mother, working from home as an exceptional seamstress for the public, her family and friends. She proudly made her daughters’ wedding dresses, along with costumes for the local theater and anything that anyone would ask her to make. Her girls regularly came home from school to a new dress and even bedroom make-overs. She took pride in her talent and had an impeccable reputation for her work, even earning countless ribbons in the Brazoria County Fair.

Nadine worked at various jobs throughout her life, always learning and accepting a challenge. As a teenager, she had fond memories of working at a general store in Freeport and later became an entrepreneur. As her children grew up, Nadine looked for work outside her home. She worked as a dental assistant, teaching herself and learning on the job. Later, she was president of a local micro-film company. She loved “hitting the pavement” and “drumming up work”.

Chuck and Nadine raised their family in Brazoria county then moved to Lindale, Texas to be near her ailing and aging parents, whom she loved and honored, while working at a microfilm company and raising her youngest daughter. Chuck and Nadine returned to the Lake Jackson area in 1990, to be near family and friends.

Nadine had a variety of interests. She was a member of the Lake Jackson Home Demonstration Club and a bowling league (with Chuck) in the 1970’s. She loved oil painting and all things Victorian. She enjoyed assisting Chuck with his photography beginning in the 1950’s and videography in the 1980’s. They made a great pair, doing everything together from hobbies, to watching sports and traveling. Chuck and Nadine were fortunate to travel the world including numerous trips to the Bible Lands and Europe. Nadine was known to be the “planner” for these trips. She loved to travel and share her experiences.

Nadine was a faithful member of the church of Christ, attending congregations throughout the county. She regularly attended ladies bible studies, visited the sick with her husband, and loved hosting gatherings in her home. She was a constant support to Chuck when he preached and served as an elder, until his death. Despite numerous underlying health issues, over her lifetime, Nadine never let that stop her zeal and enthusiasm for life. She allowed God’s word and her faith to direct her every step and every decision in her personal walk with Christ. Her primary goal was heaven, teaching family and others, even in her last days. Her motto was “this too shall pass”. She was strong, courageous and industrious. She lived with faith, integrity and passion, in all that she did. She approached life with a great sense of humor. Time with her daughters and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charlie and her husband. She is survived by her brother James (Ann) Webb of Clifton CO , Daughters; Debra (Randy) Vernor of Lake Jackson TX, Cindy (Scott) Turney of Davidsonville MD, Patricia (Phil) DeVille of Angleton, TX and Laura (Brian) Chapin of Parker CO. 7 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Jeremy Vernor, Todd Vernor, Timothy Vernor, Clint DeVille, Warren DeVille and Aaron Diestelkamp; and serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Elijah Vernor, Titus Diestelkamp, Andrew Diestelkamp.

A Visitation for Nadine will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Saturday June 15, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:00am. A Funeral to Celebrate Nadine’s Life will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Saturday June 15, 2019 at 11:00am, followed by a graveside at Restwood Memorial Park.
