She leaves behind her children and spouses; Cindy (Herron) Maresh and husband Terry Don Maresh; Carla (Herron) Clinton and husband Chuck Clinton; and son Doug (Buddy) Herron and wife Susan Henney; seven grandchildren, Chris Clinton and wife Sena; Cameron Clinton; Shayla Maresh; Celsie (Clinton) Townsend and husband Hunter Townsend; Blake Maresh; Ryan Henney-Herron; and Walker Henney-Herron; and one great-granddaughter, Heidi Townsend.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lelland Doyle Herron, her parents, George and Ruby Bowen, sisters Betty McKee and Beulah Hoffman, and brother Merle Bowen; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Barbara was born December 19, 1935, to George E. and Ruby Ray Bowen in Garber, OK. After graduating from Archer City High School in 1954, she worked as a secretary in Wichita Falls, TX. She met Airman Second Class Doyle Herron, who was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, at the Pioneer Restaurant in Wichita Falls, and six months later married the love of her life on April 30, 1955 in Archer City, TX. Following Doyle’s honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1957, they moved to Taft, Texas where she worked as a Deputy Clerk for the San Patricio County Court House in Sinton, TX until 1961, when they moved to Lake Jackson. She began her career as an Office Manager for Moss & Associates from 1973-1991, followed by positions with Gulf Coast Sportswear and Pools, Inc. until 2005 when she retired. She not only took pride in her work, but truly relished the friends she made during her career. Barbara also held multiple positions in the Business & Professional Women’s Clubs Inc., earned her 10-year certificate working as a volunteer at CHI St. Luke’s Health Brazosport Hospital, belonged to the Lake Jackson Citizen Police Academy, attended Willow Drive Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and was a life-long resident of Lake Jackson.
Barbara cherished her family and was happiest when she was spending time with them. She rarely was without a camera, and the family learned to indulge her insistence of stopping to record everything on “tape”. She loved being outdoors in her garden and had the greenest thumb ever, enjoyed baking anything sweet, and truly loved to read. Weekends and vacations were spent water skiing, camping, watching her kids and grandkids activities, and lately spending time with her great granddaughter. She always enjoyed a good card game or playing dominoes. You rarely saw her without a smile on her face.
