Virginia was born on April 16, 1932 in Stuart, Oklahoma. She was one of three children - having an older brother and a younger sister. Her family moved to Fresno County, California in 1937. She grew up in the First Southern Baptist church of Fresno.
Virginia was saved at the age of 11 years. She enjoyed the activities that the church offered. She served as the Children's Sunday School Teacher, Director of the Children's Department, Church Clerk, Church Secretary, and at one time was a church pianist.
Virginia worked for 27 years as a secretary. She started her career as a Legal Secretary and ended it in a church office.
With her family she enjoyed camping, waterskiing, bicycling, and hiking. She did a lot of reading, sewing, and she enjoyed music. After retirement, she, with her husband Vester visited all 50 of the United States.
When her grandson Jeremy was small and a Walt Disney movie came to a theatre, she always took him to lunch and to see the movie. She also enjoyed her great grandchildren and was glad they came to visit.
Virginia will be remembered as a kind, giving, compassionate person. She was notably conscientious and considered somewhat of a perfectionist too.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Vester Jackson Watkins; her son Gary Watkins; her grandson Jeremy Watkins (Nichola), and two great grandsons Christopher Watkins and Isaiah Watkins.
Virginia was preceded in death by her son Keith Watkins; her parents Floyd Robert and Florence Ethel (Lenox) Gilles; sister Freda Carlson.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Boice Funeral Home, 308 Pollasky Ave, Clovis, CA 93612. A graveside service will occur Friday, February 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Clovis Cemetery District, 305 N Villa Ave, Clovis, CA 93612.
