Our family is saddened to share the news of the passing of Rob with family, friends and business associates. Rob was the eldest child of Ron & Nancy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Rasmussen. He is survived by his Father, Ronald; his Brother, Russell & his wife, Patty; his niece and nephew, Katie Dwyer & her husband, J.R.., their children, Olivia & Kennedy and Kyle Rasmussen & his wife, Kendall. Rob is also survived by his Aunts & Uncles, and many cousins.
Robbie, as he was known as a child, could be best characterized as curious, a bit of a rascal, and active. He was smart, observant, and not afraid to investigate anything or anywhere that gained his interest. His childhood was full of adventures with family that included hunting with his Dad and Grandpa Bobby, spending many weekends with the family at the Hume Lake Cabin and more family trips motorcycle riding in the desert. More recently, Morro Bay became a favorite spot for getaways. As a pre-adolescent, Robbie dabbled in photography, using his Kodak Instamatic camera to photograph 1970’s era Evel Knievel stunts. Imagine Robbie lying between the takeoff and landing ramp with the neighborhood boys jumping their bikes over him while he did his best to capture the moment. As you can imagine, those photos were mostly blurs, and amazingly there were no scars that came from that activity. Robbie loved television; be it cartoons, sci-fi, action movies, or current event news. If you ever needed a trivia answer in the category of television and entertainment, Robbie was your guy! His recall of factoids was amazing.
School and mandated rules did not suit Rob well, so when high school graduation finally came, he was more than willing to trade in his pencil & books for a steering wheel and uniform. He worked at his parent’s auto repair business as a delivery driver. This suited him, he was out & about town, on the road, meeting a variety of people, and getting paid for it. This new found freedom and the paycheck that came along with it eventually led him to purchase a home and become independent.
Rob wasn’t into participating in athletics, however, he was a loyal fan! He had a particular affinity for Fresno State and the Bulldogs. It was the norm to see Rob at most any function in his trademark Red FSU football jersey with Rasmussen emblazoned across the shoulders. He was a longtime fan of the Fresno Falcons hockey team, never missing a home game, season after season. WWE was another favorite and when the tour came to town it was a sure bet Rob had a ticket for the event. When the Fresno Grizzlies organization came to Fresno, Rob adopted baseball as another pastime to enjoy. His collection of Jerseys and Sweaters from all his teams were his prized possessions.
Rob’s mother, Nancy, graciously planned many family trips, the most anticipated were the trips to Hawaii. Rob looked forward to these Hawaii vacations probably more than we knew. He loved the Islands, the mild climate, the freedom a vacation gave him to relax, and enjoy the spirit of Aloha. These were cherished times of great enjoyment for Rob.
Most recently Rob had experienced the freedom that comes in retirement. His schedule was his own. He answered to no one, as was evidenced by his cell phone being off most of the time – he liked his peaceful solitude. And, as life can throw the occasional curveball, Rob’s time upon this earth ended sooner than any of us anticipated. Only our Father in Heaven knows the time when we will be called home. May his soul rest in peace, and his memory be lovingly remembered by all the hearts he touched.
