Our beloved mother, May Mee Kock Chow, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones at the incredible age of 94. She was born on November 20, 1928, in Hoy Ping, a small village in the Guangzhou province of China. Our mother lived a long and eventful life, enduring a host of hardships and conquering many challenges. In everything she did, she was immensely devoted to her family and sacrificed everything she had to pave a path towards a better life for her children and the generations to come.
Providence smiled on our family as we were granted a visa to America. Mom and Dad pressed on and moved our family to America with hopes of freedom and new opportunities waiting to be fulfilled. Mom and Dad worked long hours for many years, placing their family’s needs above their own. Mom had an indomitable spirit, never surrendering. She passed that spirit on to her sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, encouraging us to persevere and always to reach our full potential by pursuing education, which opened doors of opportunity.
Mom was thoughtful and hospitable in all her actions. She loved to prepare delicious meals for family and friends, displaying her affection for those around her. Some of her fondest memories include watching her family slurp up and savor her homemade rice noodles as quickly as she could steam them and serve them. Every family gathering was a voracious feast. Visiting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her joy at family gatherings, as we created precious memories that will last our lifetimes. This amazing spirit of love and compassion passed on to her sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many generations to come.
Our mom is especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and their accomplishments. Their achievements include a restaurateur, mechanical engineer, design engineer, accountant, civil servant, physician’s associate, child life specialist, teacher, optometrist, computer coder, physician, artist, system engineer, student, transcriber, municipal planner and great-grandchildren who will continue her legacy.
She leaves an amazing legacy and is survived by Her daughter, Kathy and husband Raymond, her grandchildren Bryan and his wife Iris and her great-grandchildren Finn and Brooks, Lesley and her husband Kelvin and her great-grandchildren Emmitt and Emma, Amy and her husband Jim and her great-grandchildren Alyssa and Ryan, and Michelle and her husband Moses and her great-grandchild Noah. Her son Everett and wife Jennifer and her grandchildren Benjamin and his wife Sarah, and Zayn and Julia. Her son Andrew and his wife Annie and her grandchildren Gabriel and Alex. Her son Tommy and his late-wife Bobbie and her son Daniel and his wife Amber and her great-grandchildren Addison and Avery. Her daughter Elizabeth and her grandchild Adam.
Late-Brother Joe Kwong Chiu Wong wife Chien Choice Lum Wong sons Larry Wong wife Michelle, grandchild Mason, Eddie Wong Wong Late brother-in-law Sik Kay Chow late-wife Yiu Ping niece Lai Li Wong husband Chak Wong.
Mom always had a perspective on life that amazed us. She committed her life to Jesus Christ with a humble and faithful heart, being baptized in her faith, to share with the world that she is a child of God. Her faith stands as a beacon of light, encouraging us to walk on the path of righteousness as we humbly serve God and the people around us.
Mom’s great attitude and spirit lives in each of us. Each day, we are motivated to work diligently to achieve the potential she saw in each of us. She is beaming in heaven with great joy in all that we have accomplished and all that we will achieve in this lifetime. Life is a beautiful experience; let us celebrate our precious memories, our moments of joy and happiness, and the long-lasting legacy of May Chow.
