He was an accomplished athlete in many sports while in high school. He graduated from Reedley High School and then served in the Army. He was stationed in South Korea during the Korean war.
Approximately two years after his return to the United States, he married Patricia Ann Grawan on March 26, 1961. Living in Clovis, California they raised two daughters, Lorilee and Lisa. John worked as a flooring contractor and quality assurance. Johnnie was a founding member of the Reedley Nomads Car Club. He was a junior at Reedley High School when the club was started with a group of friends. He was an active member most of his life and had a variety of different hot rods. Additionally, he loved the outdoors and was a very active member of the Tri-Lakes Club for more than 30 years. Fishing, gardening, caring for the fish in his pond, his squirrels, and many other creatures that made their way to his yard were amongst his passions. His largest passion, by far, was his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Patricia Cox; daughter Lorilee Perry; daughter Lisa Messenger (Charlie); brother Ron Cox, sister Sandra Mangine and sister Linda Seher; grandchildren Jennalee Perry-Holguin (Eric), Julianne Perry, and Haylee Perry. His brother Lester Cleo Cox (Adele) preceded his death. John also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbors, and life-time friends that he loved greatly.
