Hi my name is Juan Chavez. Mr. Dunn was my sixth grade teacher at Sierra vista in 2000-2001 school year and had many fond memories of him as an educator. He loved teasing me because of my name and would always sing, “Juan is the loneliest number that you ever knew, two could be as bad as Juan, but Juan is the loneliest number!” That same year my other passed away right before the school year ended, and I missed about a month of school dealing with everything. He was so compassionate about my situation, and made sure I didn’t have to catch up on any work due to grievance. He also coached me in  baseball, made me the catcher, pitcher, and centerfield that I am today. I couldn’t have asked for a better first class citizen than him. I’m saddened to find out about this now, but I wanted to extend my condolences to his loved ones because he was a big time role model and an impactful figure in my life. Thank you Mr. Dunn for being a wonderful teacher, and for taking a chance on a kid who came from a troubled background, and had the patience to deal with my ADHD, I knew it wasn’t easy.

Although Mr. Dunn wasn’t my 6th Grade teacher he was one of my baseball coaches and without even being in his class I knew he was one of our best teachers at Sierra Vista. He was always incredibly kind and patient with me even though I was horrible at baseball. I’m going to miss him just like I know the rest of my 6th grade class will! Blessings to the Dunn family!

I was a 1968 Sanger High graduate with Larry.  A great guy with a big, infectious smile he will be missed, but I’m sure our Lord is enjoying his presence.

I wish the best for all the family and friends. I know this is very rough time but it will pass, with all the loving memories of Larry. I too had several classes with Larry at Sanger high including Latin with miss Baxter. I always thought she was miss havisham .from great expectations . I will miss him and his humor.


I first me Larry in Latin class our freshman year. We sat alphabetically so Dunn and Boragno were next to each other. Larry was always smiling and had the rosiest cheeks! Our best conversations were about our teacher Miss Baxter who was older, wore her long gray-black hair up in a twist and had a huge solitaire diamond ring on her left hand. Larry would devise silly stories about her and tell them to me when he came in class, like she was jilted by a lover but kept the ring or that she was ousted by a royal family and the ring was all she had left.  Larry’s little stories kept us from the boredom of conjugating Latin verbs!  May he Rest In Peace 🙏🏻

Mr. Dunn was my 6th grade teacher. I will never forget how fun he would try to make class and how funny he was. He was always so caring but in a stern way that reminded me of my own father which was amazing in it's own way. He helped set myself and so many other children up for the future and for that I'm sure we will all be forever grateful. My condolences and prayers go out to the Dunn family♡  may his memory and love of flamingos live on through you all!♡

Having you as my 6th grade teacher at sierra Vista elementary was a great pleasure, you were an amazing person you will be greatly missed . My condolences to his family and friends ! Forever in our hearts you will be!❤
