She was born on Monday, September 25, 1961 in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. She was loved by her parents, Josefina Mendoza and Daniel Yanez.
She was the second youngest of seven siblings, Manuel, Maria Elena, Martha, Maria Eugenia and Juan.
She went to an all -girls elementary school called Magdalena Cuevas, por la calle Hidalgo en el centro de Chapala. Even though she only studied till the 6th grade, she was very smart and learned how to read, write, and do math quickly.
As a young girl her favorite games she played with her sisters were tag, La Trias, Matatena, Loteria, Los Encantados and La Tiendita. As a teenager she enjoyed going on walks to the lake (la playa) with her sisters. After their walks they would sneak off to the bailes at El Lalecon to dance but only for a while before they got caught by their brothers.
At 17 years old she met my dad, and by the time she was 23 she had 3 babies and lived in the United States. Luis, Jaime and I were her life. She always made sure we were okay, made sure we had everything we needed and when we were sick or had a bad dream she always comforted us or bathed us with vapor rub. And no matter what we did she always stood next to us. As adults, until the day she left us, she always worried about us and always wanted reassurance that we were okay. Sometimes she would hear police, ambulance or fire truck sirens and would immediately call me worried, asking were I was and if we were okay. My brothers and I were her life until she started having grandkids. She was a part of their lives since the minute they were born. She mentioned that the love she had for all her grandkids felt and was much bigger than anything. Mariah, her oldest granddaughter, gave her the nickname TITA 20 years ago and pretty soon all her grandkids called her Tita. Mariah, Leah, Emily, Lyllie, Mia, Bethanie, Junior, Jamie and Juju, her Jujuy (yuYu), Tita loved you with all her heart and will always be watching over you.
Tita had many hobbies including knitting. She knitted her grandkids blankets the color of their choice. She even made them scarves in their school colors so they would wear them on Fridays for spirit wear. One of Tita's best talents was cooking. When me and my brothers got off the school bus and walked home we could smell dinner and we knew it was coming from our house. The other kids called us lucky. Sometimes, it was her famous fried chicken, her Carne Asada, her Carne con Chile, her beans, her white and orange Mexican rice, or caldos de Albondigas, Pollo o de Res. One of the best cooking memories I will forever keep was helping her make a homemade flour tortillas for my dad's lunch. When we were done she would get one, add butter and roll it up for me.
Tita was a hard worker, working at various fruit companies including PR Farms and spent most of her life working at Wawona frozen foods.
Things didn't work out with my dad, but soon after she found her one true love and they spent 22 happy years together. They enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos, and spending time together. Most of all they enjoyed listening to music. My mom loved music so much every night she would sleep with the radio on next to her. Her favorite singers are Los Bukis, Bronco, Los Terricolas, Micky Laure, and Grupo Indio.
She left behind a huge legacy of family, love and togetherness. She managed to bring us together even from Mexico. She only wanted the best for each of us; happiness, a sense of family, our children and to do our best in life. She was great example of what a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and cousin should be. We will miss her dearly, but we know she is now with her mom, dad, sister and her one true love.
She should not be mourned in death. She should be celebrated for the life she lived. Each of us carries a part of her within us. Each of us also have special memories we will carry in our hearts and heads until the day we pass. We should talk with one another often about those memories. It is a way to keep her memory alive and celebrate who she was. Even though a part of us feels like it is missing, we were blessed to have such an angel in our lives that watched over us until her last breath, who gave us a special love that can only come from a mother and grandmother. She is not physically with us anymore but I know she will still be watching over us every single day.
