Angie, you will be terribly missed by so many people. I've known you for almost five decades and I always felt like I was family, since day one. I'm grateful that you are now at peace and that you are with Andy again. I know that you will be looking over your family and will forever be in their hearts. RIP with love, Jeanette.

On one of my first dates with Amanda, she introduced me to nopales, a dish she had learned to make from her grandmother, Angie. 

Some time down the road, I mentioned to Angie how delicious it was and how I would love to learn someday, too. On our very next visit, Angie had set up a table in the backyard, with two chairs, a sharp knife, and a bowl of fresh picked cactus leaves. 

We sat together and she showed me how to prepare the nopales. While I only knew Angie a short while, moments like these showed me who she was, and gave me a glimpse of her tremendous legacy.

I remember her firmness; a no-nonsense focus on the task at hand, a respect for the sharp knife and the generations old tradition she was showing me. But, somehow, intermingled in her seriousness was a subtle lightness, a warmth; an aurora of kindness, humor, patience, and love.

Angie was an incredible woman. I am so grateful to have known her. I am grateful that my children were able to know her, even if only for a short time. They are young and may not remember the moments they had with her, but the love she impressed on them is permanent and they will carry it forever. We all will.

She will be missed, but never forgotten.

It has been an honor and privilege to have shared the last 42 years with you. 
We shared many memories. One I will always remember.

To Our Cousins and all Aunt Angie's Family,
We're so sorry for your loss.   We will always remember our
Auntie Angie.  She was so willing to help.  My earliest memory of her , was when she made my kindergarden graduation gown, class of 1953. Over the years  our families also enjoyed get-to- gethers which meant great food and fun.   I appreciated her help when she made me a beautiful Prom dress, and then for our wedding,  a Ring Bearer Pillow.  A woman of many talents.  She accomplished whatever she set out to do for her family and others as well as being hospitable and welcoming.  She was loved and will be greatly missed.

Mom,

I miss you terribly, but I find solace in knowing that you’re with Pop and likely looking down upon us with love and comfort.  The ache in my heart will heal over time, so they say… but the memories I have will live forever.

The last several years have brought you and I closer together than ever before.   Sure we had our tough times, even terrible times.  But you and I always found our way back to each other within a few hours or days as we talked through our differences.  You understood me and I you.

Over many years, you confided in me and shared your deepest thoughts and memories.  You shared what made you happy and what made you sad.  You gave me guidance when I needed it and sometimes when I didn’t.  But I always listened.  For that I am grateful as it made me a better person and I understood even more of what made you my “Mom”. 

I will miss the visits we had almost every week.  The phone calls every other day, if not twice every day.   I’ll miss the calls from you after dinner when we stayed on the phone like school girls for hours.   We laughed, we cried and we found comfort in each other when we both said “Bye, I love you.  I’ll talk with you tomorrow.”   And we always did.

People often ask me what made you the person you were… I say, the love of God, family and trust to always do the right thing.   I’ll forever remember some of your favorites… Pink (still don’t know why), watermelon, pineapple, salad, bread, slot machines, dessert and giggling.

My grandmother was a women to love. If you knew her, you loved her. Her dedication and love for her family always took priority. Some of my favorite memories are with her and my grandfather at their home, playing with my cousins and cooking our favorite foods. She was strong willed, confident and funny. We shared many interest and spent most of our time laughing. She will be missed. Thank you grandma for your love, guidance and continued support. You made this world a better place.

To My Second Family 

I wasn’t brought into the Gonzales Family until I was about 13 years old but then never left! The warmth, kindness and generosity was truly amazing and centered around Momma Angie!

      One of the things I remember about Aunt Angie was that she was a wonderful cook. She always had a big smile and warm hug for everyone. I remember some of our camping trips up in Raymond and enjoying her delicious tortillas, made on the big drum up there. When she still had her salon in her house Norm and I would go there to get our hair done and then go into the house where Uncle Angelo had dinner ready and a warm greeting. Angie and Angelo welcomed everyone into their homes and hearts. 
My mom, Connie Gonzalez, spent her last years at the Nazareth House and she was there before Aunt Angie arrived. When Aunt Angie heard that my mom was there, she was very excited to join her. Afterward, they would visit each other. Aunt Angie later told me at dinner one evening, “Did you ever think we would both be here together? Just like old times.” And while those times lasted they were as good as I remembered.

Doll collecting became real to me when I moved to Fresno, CA in the 80s and met Angie Gonzales who invited me to join the local UFDC club.  Angie told me that her dad thought she looked like Shirley Temple when she was a little girl. Angie collected Shirley Temples and took me in hand and off we went to have adventure after adventure with the doll clubs, conventions, and doll shows galore.  Angie took me to the Shirley Temple Collectors-by-the Sea at Oxnard, CA.  Angie had lived a remarkably interesting life and continued her education in beautician school after her marriage to Angelo.  They had four kids, and several grandkids.  She and Angelo and my husband Dick and I had our wedding anniversaries just one day apart, so we shared several celebrations together.  One year I would cook dinner and the next year she would.  They visited us one year when we were staying in Baja, but also took trips by themselves in Mexico.  Both had large families so there were many family events and reunions that kept them busy.  Angie not only ran a beauty shop from her home, but she also kept a booth at the antique mall in Clovis to sell dolls and collectibles. She was a busy lady all her life and I did not meet her until all her children had moved away from home. At Christmas she teamed up with her daughters and made tamales from scratch to share with friends.  She laughed one time and said she had taught the kids so well as now they could do it all themselves.
Little did we know that my ideas of storing up memories to remember the good times would apply to both of us in our later lives.  We had great fun and I remember dressing up like pumpkins for an October Regional, sharing duties at conventions and watching her granddaughter tap dance a Shirley Temple routine at a ST Collectors by the Sea event.  She was active in UFDC and also she and Angelo came to the Modern Doll Collectors Convention.  I will miss my dear friend and treasure our memories!

We grew up surrounded by awesome and loving aunt's and auntie Angie was amongst them all. My sincere condolences to Son, Arlene, Abe, Annette and all her grand/great children.

Well it was a huge loss. You were always my second mom. And when i heard you had left us. I felt my world just fall apart again. You always took me on vacation with your  family. You were always there for me and loved me unconditionaly. You will always be in my heart. You were very awasome. And i will see you one day. Bless you sis and i will always thank you for being the best Older Sister that i have.

I'm so very sorry that each of you had a very big loss with the passing of Auntie Angie. She was an amazing, wonderful, beautiful, giving, loving, funny, sassy, talented and someone who could easily share tons of memories. She was awesome to talk to about family life and she knew the complete history of our family. I could listen to her for hours about it and she never failed to just enlighten and teach me about one more thing. I adored those conversations and she truly had a gift of remembering those memories. Her and Uncle Angelo were so wonderful together and they had an amazing long marriage. I always looked up to them both. Uncle Angelo is so happy right now to have her back.
 Aunt Angie was a great Mother to her kids and a fantastic Grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were all so very lucky to have her in their lives and she them too. I have always loved Aunt Angie so very much, more than words can even express and she was a true gift and blessing in my life. The fond memories I have of her will always stay in my heart and soul. I can imagine her now and she is resting and relaxing right next to Uncle Angelo and her parents and siblings, all together again. I'm going to miss her a whole lot but also feel good about where she went to and that I will definitely see her again someday. You all will stay in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and I'm so very sorry for your loss and the sadness you have inside. God Bless you all.

Aunt Angie was a pillar for the family.  She was interested in what was going on in the family.  Always ready to lend a hand or share some advice.  She had such a zest for live!  Always learning something new!  Her hands were always busy!  She treasured her family.  Aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and friend!  Your are a precious treasure and will be missed.

To our cousins, all the “A”s,

     Auntie Angie and Uncle Angelo have left a lasting legacy of hard work and love and caring written in your lives and those of your children.
     We remember them so well for all the times our families were together and the warm relationships we shared growing up. Now ourselves in the senior category, we even more so appreciate and respect what our parents did for us. They instilled a set of values that has produced a family that endures. You made them proud. Both your Mom and Dad were of what has been termed “The Greatest Generation” and we cant disagree. They really were, and that is why we loved them and why they will be missed.

Gonzales Family, 

Trish & I are so sad to hear about the loss of Aunt Angie.  Aunt Angie and Uncle Angelo were such pillars in the Gonzales family.  I always remember my Mom and Dad taking me to visit them at there house or Uncle Angelo's shop and how loving and kind they were.  No doubt they were amazing parents and will be truly missed by all.  One Bible scripture that gives Trish and I comfort when losing a loved one is 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 which says "Praise be the God and father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort we receive from God".  Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family during this difficult time.
