Shirley J. Shifflett

1930-2017

Mrs. Shirley J. Shifflett, 87, died peacefully at her home Dec. 29, 2017. Mrs. Shifflett was born Aug. 26, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio to George and Salome (Kingseed) Reese. She grew up in Detroit, one of five children. She graduated from Southeastern High School in 1948. On Aug. 16, 1948 she married Elmer Shifflett. Together they had six children; Diane, David, Dennis, Daniel, Darlene and Donna.

A homemaker, Mrs. Shifflett dedicated her life to raising her family. She enjoyed traveling, needlepoint, collecting Precious Moments and Amish quilts, and listening to country music. Mrs. Shifflett is survived by her children Diane (Paul) Rempala; David (Robbyn Syer) Shifflett; Dennis (Julie) Shifflett; Daniel (Marianne Winkler) Shifflett; Darlene Preston; and Donna (Gary) Wilder, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer, siblings Delores, George Jr., Judith and Robert and son-in-law Gerald Preston.

Mrs. Shifflett will lie in state from 4 to 8pm Jan. 2 and 3 to 8pm Jan. 3 at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A Funeral Service will take place Jan. 4 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Road in Sterling Heights at 11am. Friends may visit the church beginning at 10:30am. Interment will follow the service at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East.
