A tribute to Aunt Norma,
It is far too often that I have gone through my life and failed to properly express my appreciation to those persons who have provided me with support.    Others have already mentioned that they looked forward to Aunt Norma’s annual Christmas Cards.    I missed hers this year.   That is the first Christmas Card that I have not received from her for over 50 years.

I have received a Birthday Card (50 +), and Anniversary Card (50+) and a Christmas Card (50+) on schedule with a cheerful message for over 50 years.   It should be noted that they were never late!     Such a little thing, sending three cards a year (that I am sure was strongly supported by Uncle John) that were just for me or my wife Sharman.   Over the past 50 years, that is a minimum of 200 cards.   

I am only one of the nieces and nephews on the Weiss side.  There were 13 of us.   I know she did this for the others as well.     Her dedicated organization to this simple act of kindness is truly amazing.   By my math, this simple act was sending a minimum of 1,950 cards to us.  That does not includes the Goebel relatives or her friends.  

This is so amazing to me because I miss the birthdays of my siblings or rush to get a card mailed on time.  I have given up trying to send Christmas Cards or any other holiday card.   When I received her cards, I became increasingly grateful for her thoughtful kindness.    When I did get to see her and Uncle John (rarely over the past 50 years), she was always enthusiastically cheerful.

Her daughter Diane, has begun to take on her mother’s gracious act of staying in contact with her closest relatives through the sending cards at the important times.  

Thank you Aunt Norma, your kind, thoughtful and generous acts were greatly appreciated.    I am sorry that I did not express this to you when you could hear me.

Dear Diana and Kevin and your families,

My heart grieves deeply with you over the death of Norma Weiss, your mother and grandmother. Your loss is great, knowing that you will no longer be with her or talk with her here on earth.  But through your grief and tears, you can rejoice knowing she is alive and well with Jesus and your Dad forever, and you will all be together again in God's timing for all eternity. No matter how grown up we are it is still so hard to lose one's mother in death. 

Norma was my girlfriend from childhood.  We went to Hamilton Elementary, Jackson Intermediate, and Southeastern High School together. But the most special meaningful times were at our church, Our Savior Lutheran. We were confirmed together on April 2, 1944. Pastor Buchheimer's text of his sermon on our Confirmation Sunday was "Stand fast in the Lord." Norma's faith continued to be steadfast in Jesus.

Norma was a leader, a very lovely person, kind, thoughtful and friendly. She was on the girls' softball team at church and was a very good athlete. (I was the scorekeeper.) We enjoyed many activities with the Walther League and Youth for the Kingdom (which Pastor Buchheimer organized.) Mr. Goobel would take us ice-skating at Belle Isle on some winter evenings. We enjoyed outings with each of our families. 

I am thankful and blessed to have had Norma for my friend. 

I was a bridesmaid at her wedding to John. They were married when John was in the Army. Ron Fuhrman and I were married when Ron was in the Army, too. After our Army days were over, our lives became so busy with buying our homes, getting civilian jobs and raising our families. So we didn't see each other very often. 

May God comfort all of you as He alone can do. May your cherished memories bring smiles to your faces and joy in your hearts.

Dear Diane and Kevin,

So very sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. I always looked forward to her Christmas card with updates on all of you - and hers was typically the first card of the season to arrive.

I treasure the memories of the times our families spent together. We were blessed by the friendship our parents shared.

I pray you will find peace and strength in knowing your mom is with her Lord and Savior - and reunited with your dear dad.
