Marie (Chapoton) Clark was born on September 1, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, right in the midst of World War II. Her father, Fred Chapoton was deployed overseas and was not even aware that he had a new baby girl – his first with his young bride, Marie Chapoton (yes, they shared the same first name!). Marie attended Catholic school and graduated from St. Gertrude’s, right across the street from her house in St. Clair Shores, where she grew up. She met John Clark on a blind date at a youth group church outing where they went on a hayride and they married a short time later on October 28, 1961. Having four kids over the span of 7 years and a long marriage of 62 years made life busy!
Marie and John loved to travel – over the years, they went on many cruises together, had many trips to Florida, Indiana, the east coast and out west to Colorado, Nevada and California. They had friends all over the country – many lasting over 50 years! They sold Amway products for many years and gained many friends and loved spending time with the people that they met. Marie became the bookkeeper extraordinaire for both John’s business, J & M Service & Supply and then with her daughter, Marci, at Majik Graphics, Inc., a business they built together over the span of 30 years, raising grandchildren there and building a wonderful life. She retired at the age of 72 in 2014, ready to spend time with John, who had retired a few years earlier. Marie loved her family – loved playing cards, loved to travel – just was a people person.
She is survived by her husband, John Alvin Clark; her children: son Richard (the late Karen) Clark, daughter Marcetta (Michael) Hurst, son Michael (Joy) Clark, and daughter Melissa Clark; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with number 13 on the way; and brother, Michael (Joyce) Chapoton. She had a special relationship with her brother-in-law, Frank Clark – she was his “only sister” for 62 years and she loved him dearly. She has so many friends and family – she was a blessed woman and will be greatly missed
