Larry was born on March 13, 1938 in Highland Park, MI to parents Elizabeth Mate Hitchcock and Clarence Hitchcock.
Larry spent his years of employment as a police officer for the city of East Pointe. He worked his way up through the ranks retiring as Chief of Police in 1989. He obtained 2 associate degrees, 1 in chemistry and 1 in criminal justice at MCCC. He was a faithful member of Sterling Heights United Methodist Church.
He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jane VanDyke on November 1, 1979. Larry and Betty celebrated 35 years of marriage as best friends.
He leaves behind his devoted wife Betty, daughter Linda Hitchcock Morrell (Scott) of Warren, MI, daughter Catherine “Kitty” Koon (Joey) of Paron, AR, son Gerald E. Hitchcock (Paula) of East Pointe, MI, son Robert C. Hitchcock of Sherwood, AR, son Brian W. Howard (Rosemary) of Sterling Heights, MI and son David A. Howard (Kinberly) of Clinton Township, MI. He was a very proud grandfather to 5 granddaughters, 8 grandsons and 2 beautiful great granddaughters. Larry leaves behind a host of extended family and friends. He made friends with everyone he did business with. He will be forever missed.
Sadly, he was preceded in death by both of his parents and one sister, Sandra Kamel.
Visitation will be held at Kaul Funeral Home 35201 Garfield Rd. Clinton Township, MI on Monday, March 9th, from 2-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at Sterling Heights United Methodist Church 11333 16 ½ Mile Rd. Sterling Heights, MI 48312 on Tuesday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. (in state 10:00 a.m.)
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sterling Heights United Methodist Church or to St. Jude.
