Francis H. Ross, age 89, crossed over to eternity on December 27, 2022 to join with his beloved wife Josephine. Loving father to Mary Frances Ross and Joseph (Donna) Ross. Dear grandfather to Kristen (Roger) Epley and Julie (William) Bery. Great-grandfather to Addison, Brooke, Avery, Jack, Liam and Blake. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul (Mary Rose) Ross. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank loved spending time bowling, golfing, traveling everywhere (especially cruising), spending his winters in Florida and a special week every summer in Ludington with family. Frank graduated from Catholic Central High School in Detroit and started working on the cruise ships on the Great Lakes- mainly the South American. He started in the kitchen and quickly moved to the engine room shoveling coal. He took a break for a three-year stint serving in the Army during the Korean War. His love of the water drew him back to the ships where he worked his way up in the engine room. After he met the love of his life and had a child on the way, he gave up working on the Great Lakes and took a job on land as an Operating Engineer in the schools. He eventually went to work for Wayne State University for over 25 years as an Operating Engineer- which he often explained to people that he “kept the University running”. In January 1974, he graduated with honors from Macomb County Community College with an Associate Degree in Technology and Climate Control Technology and tested his way up to a Journeyman’s First-Class License in heating and air conditioning. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and a life member of the AFL/CIO. Frank had a very strong faith.
Frank’s family would like to thank the staff of Custom Health Care for their compassion and hard work.
