Debbie McConkey lost her battle with brain cancer on April 13, 2014. She dedicated over 22 years of her life teaching elementary education, the last 18 of which was in the Utica Community Schools District. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and a Masters Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. She studied abroad in Seville, Spain. The first years of her career were spent teaching Spanish throughout the district. She decided she wanted her own classroom and settled down at Ewell Elementary. She then moved to Schwarzkoff Elementary for the remainder of her career teaching sixth grade.
Her passions in life besides her two beautiful girls (Abbey and Gwen) were gardening, reading, cooking, exercising and helping others. Debbie's most endearing qualities were expressing her appreciation and her dedication to her career, family and friends.
