Dr. Russell M. McIntire, Sr., passed away Saturday morning in Clinton. Born September 19, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Carl Alfred McIntire, Sr., and Flossie Jones McIntire. He spent his childhood in Missouri, graduated from William Jewell University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served numerous churches in Louisiana and Mississippi during his nearly 70-year career as a Baptist pastor. After serving at Clinton First Baptist Church for more than twenty years, he served as director of development for New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and then returned to the pastorate at Oak Park Baptist Church for several years until he retired in 1987 and returned to Clinton.
Dr. McIntire was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly sixty years, Maellen Neil McIntire; and a brother, Carl A. McIntire, Jr. He is survived by his son Russell M. McIntire, Jr., and wife Suzan; grandchildren, Neil Martin McIntire (Marli) and Jeanna McIntire Lankford (Ross); four great grandchildren; sister, Grace Coen; and sister-in-law Florella McIntire, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4:30 – 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at First Baptist Church Clinton. The service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m., at the church preceded by visitation 10-11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mississippi College or a charity of choice.
