Ruby Claire Turcotte Salley, 92, died Friday April 11, 2014 in Jackson, TN where she has lived since 2006. Visitation will be held at Wright-Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton on Wednesday April 16 beginning at 1:00 PM followed by a chapel service at 3:00 PM with burial in the Clinton Cemetery.
Born May 15, 1921 in Magee, MS, Ruby moved to Clinton, MS as a small child and attended school in Clinton through her 3rd year at Mississippi College, then after marriage, moved to Fort Worth Texas and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1942. She moved to Louisville, KY, where her 2 daughters and 2 sons were born. On to Toledo, Ohio in 1960, where Ruby taught elementary school for 26 years in the Sylvania, OH school system. She retired from teaching in 1987. She was a long time member of Palestine Chapter No. 51 O.E.S. and served as Worthy Matron for her local Chapter as well as for the State of Ohio. She was a 54 year member of First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She always traveled back to Mississippi to visit family annually, and enjoyed time in their vegetable gardens and kitchens, picking and preserving the bounty.
She was preceded in death by her son William Eugene Salley in 2006. She is survived by three children, Virginia Ann Ross of Talent, OR, Mary Elizabeth Salley of Columbus, OH and John Ellison Salley (Kathleen) of Jackson, TN. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
