Steven Robert Douglas, 63 years old, passed away in his sleep in the third week of September at his home in Vernon, Connecticut after ongoing medical problems. Steven was born in 1953 in Portland, Maine to Norma Jean Douglas and Robert Albert Douglas.
Steven graduated and attended the Morgan High School in Clinton, Connecticut. From 1983 to 2010, he was married to Cheryl Ann Sbabo and they made their home in Clinton, Connecticut. Steven was a devoted father who cherished time spent with family. In addition to raising their children, he maintained his career as a Bindery Line Operator for 37 years before retiring in March of 2016. A light hearted man, he had a loving and gentle nature with a great sense of humor. Steven was a proud member of the Eastern Connecticut Skeet League, and competed in the league for 16 years with his son, Chris, and his team, the Niantic Bird Busters. Talented with the guitar, he loved to play for anyone who would listen. Steven was an avid lover of sports, and followed the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots religiously. Throughout his childhood and adulthood he held a passion for American History, in particular the American Civil War.
Steven is survived (and will be dearly missed by): his mother, Norma Jean Douglas; his son, Christopher Douglas and his wife Alyssa Douglas of 6 years; his daughter, Margaret Douglas; his sister, Barbara Jean Moore and her husband Bradley Moore of 30 years; his grandson, Dominic Wilcox; and his former spouse of 27 years, Cheryl Calabrese. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Douglas.
Steven’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Swan Funeral Home staff for their wonderful care and to Steven's friends, family, and neighbors for their many acts of kindness and support during his illness.
Calling Hours will be on Sunday, October 2nd from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Swan Funeral Home, in Clinton, Connecticut, followed by a gathering of friends and family in North Haven. A scattering of ashes will take place on October 8th by a few close friends and relatives.
