Robert (Bob) R. Alfano, 74, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born on March 18, 1950 to the late Peter and Charlotte Alfano, he was the beloved husband of 53 years to Susan Weston Alfano. He graduated from Eli Whitney Technical School in 1969, and began his career in auto repair at Mantila Motors followed by the United States Postal Service Vehicle Maintenance Department for 24 years. While at the Post Office, he started Alfano's Auto Repair in East Haven in 1987.
He was devoted to his family and was always there no matter the occasion. He was a lover of all things NASCAR, spending time with family on family vacations, and family game nights. He was the life of the party and the first to offer help when others were in need. He was "Big Bob" to the neighborhood kids and was always asked to come out and play. He had a special way with words that usually landed him in the dog house or had everyone laughing hysterically. He was a big kid at heart and the saying in the house was "I raised 5 kids and the oldest is ... (insert Bob's age at the time)." Some of his favorite phrases included "Not for nothin'", "Why are there umbrellas on the screen?", "Ya bird", "Soup to Nuts!", "Who do you think you are? Anyhow?", and "Stupid Fingers".
He is survived by his loving wife Susan Alfano, sister-in-law Patricia Alfano, brother Lee Alfano (Maggie), daughters Melissa and Dawn, sons Bob Jr (Amy) and Craig (Brandi); grandchildren Cameron Miller, Devin Pryor, Caitlin, Hailey, Shelby, Emily, and CJ Alfano, and Caitlin, Ashley, and Austin Miller; great grandchildren, Naveah Hollis, Everly, Izaiah, and Xander Alfaro, Elyse Pryor, and Zaiden Alfano. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother Peter, Sr.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main Street, Clinton, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob's name to The Clinton Education Foundation (https://clintoneducationfoundation.org).
