Everyone’s Joe passed away February 23 2025 at St Rafael’s hospital after a brief illness .He was born in Torrington CT to Joseph P. Mackstutis, Sr and Jean Wesolowski Mackstutis. In 1955 his family moved to New Hartford after the 1955 Flood where he resided until 2004. He then moved after retirement to his dream condo living on the water until 2008 when he moved back to Uncasville CT after the illness and death of his beloved Donna who he was married to for 38 years and painstakingly cared for out of love. He battled parkinsons since 2020 without a complaint and was self sufficient until his brief illness.
Joe was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor which everyone loved. When Joe loved he loved deeply and unconditionally. He never said a bad word about anyone.
Since the age of 14, after the passing of his mother, Joe worked and continued to work until his retirement in his mid fifties. Joe was not a lazy man. He could be counted on for being there, giving his best and being on time. He was employed by the Torrington Company for 29 years as a technical advisor and assistant floor person. He graduated from Wolcott Tech School and studied 8 years at night at Waterbury Technical College and the Hartford State Technical College where he studied Industrial Management. He had various jobs after retirement including off track betting and security at Mohegan Sun Casino. Joe loved to play craps and slots and enjoyed the casinos. He had traveled to Aruba 14 times and vacationed in Delray Beach Every year with friends. He was an avid lake and stream fisherman in his earlier years. He had a 57 Chevy was his pride and joy enjoyed driving around town and was envy of all.
In 2010 he met the second love of his life, Gail Garrity, although he never expected to find love again. Gail had lost her son years earlier and the shared a common support. They bought a house in Clinton in 2011 and were married in 2015. He treated Gail with the same love and support only Joe could possess. Gail and Joe had so many wonderful memories and years together traveling to Ormond Beach/Time at Mohegan Sun and dinners with all their shoreline friends every Monday.
Besides his wife Gail and Step Daughter Tracy MacKinstry, who supported him with her caring ways and daily visits during his illness and grandchildren who became his own Shannon,Kelsy and Paul, he was predeceased by his father Joseph P. Mackstutis,Sr, his mother Jean Wesolowski Mackstutis . And his wife Donna Bellin Mackstutis. He also had 2 sisters Jean White and Marylou Cassidy. He left many friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be Swan Funeral home 80 E. Main Street, Clinton on Saturday March 1st 10 am to 12pm followed by a Christian Mass at St Mary’s Church at 54 Grove Street, Clinton at 12:30 PM . After the mass, all are invited to his celebration of life at Clinton Country Club 128 Old Post Road, Clinton immediately following the church service. At the celebration of life anyone who would like to share a story of Joe is invited to do so. A full private burial will be Monday at noon at New Saint Francis Cemetery in Torrington.
