Irving Post Macauley Jr., commonly known as Mac, 88, of Clinton, passed away December 29, 2011. He was born June 23, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to Irving Sr. and Myrial (Welton) Macauley. Irving is preceded in death by parents and sister, Doris Williams. He is survived by loving wife of 63 years, Doris (Hill) Macauley and children; Irving Post III of Clinton and Susan Mikalsen and her husband, Donald of Deep River. Irving is also survived by two grandchildren, Sean Macauley and his wife Tiffany, Kaenna Macauley, one great grandchild, Declan Macauley, brother, Jack Macauley of Oregon and sister, Marilyn Bishop and her husband Robert of North Carolina. Irving was a US Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient of WWII serving in the infantry as a First Lieutenant.
Irving attended Kentucky Military Institute (KMI) ROTC program and US Army OCS prior to being deployed with an Infantry unit to Italy in WWII. He was wounded in the St. Clemente Mountains of Italy. After 3 years in Army hospitals, Irving attended Centre College, KY. Irving’s varied professional career included Technical Sales for Reynolds metals, real estate development, he developed the Sunrise residential community in Guilford with his brother Jack, and in his later years designed and built high pressure water cleaning systems under the name Jetomatic, Inc. Mac was also an expert model boat builder having constructed over 50 non-kit models and half-hulls of current and ancient vessels.
Family will receive friends from 4 PM until the time of service at 7 PM on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main Street, Clinton. Graveside service with military honors will be on Wednesday, January 4, at 11 AM in Alderbrook Cemetery in Guilford.
