It sadden us to learn of Don's passing.  He's been a fixture in this community for many years.  We too stored our camper with him before moving back to CT & have had many business dealings with him over the last 7+ years.  His passing marks the end of a Hammonasset tradition.

I met Don about 5  years ago when looking for a place to store our camper.  Whenever I would go to get the camperr, I would talk to Don.  I learned a lot about the area, his trucks, square dancing, how to properly back up to my camper, and some stories of his career in HVAC.  He will be missed.  With condolences,

I I met Don years ago when he stored a sailboat for me.  It was a privilege to know him.  I considered him the mayor of our Hammonasset neighborhood.  He kept such a careful watch over the entire neighborhood and  had infinite knowledge and history of all of it.  He took such good and loving care of the beautiful Cemetary.  I will miss seeing him around the neighborhood in his big white car.  Whenever I had a question about the neighborhood, like how the developers could get possession of the abandoned roadway on Cottage Road, I would consult Don.  He always knew the correct answer. I always enjoyed running into him at the Mobil station or CVS.  We last spent about an hour together last summer in the parking lot of CVS.  While we were talking a stranger asked to use my jumper cables to jump his car.  Don stayed around to quietly supervise the entire operation, which I very much appreciated.  I liked knowing he was on Dudley (River) Rd. keeping a watch on everything around here.  I liked him so much and will miss him.

We will miss Don so much-what a great guy and a wonderful sense of humor!

Don was a great guy and a unique individual. He had been a regular at our Wednesday night square dance workshop in Old Saybrook for many years. Many times the group would get together afterwards at Saybrook Diner and hear Don tell his stories. We will all miss Don, his big white car with the two flags and everything that went along with him.

I am so sorry to hear about Don's passing. I enjoyed dancing with Don for over four years. We traveled all over CT dancing, laughing & visiting with friends. I always thought of him as a gentle giant & loved listening to him tell his stories. He is greatly missed. My loving thoughts & prayers are with Don's family during this difficult time.

Hi, my name is Erica, I am Janet (Peaches) and Wally's niece. I've only met Don a handful of times, but I know he loves his family. Everyone has been thru a hard time with the progression of his disease, but he had his immediate family with him thru it all.  Best wishes to all the family.
