Daniel Joseph Brewster Sr., of Branford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on May 3, 1937, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Dan was a man who embodied resilience, humor, and dedication.
Despite a challenging childhood where Dan got to see his courageous single mother leave an abusive relationship in the late 1930s which ultimately led to him living in both an orphanage as well as a school for boys before reuniting with his mother and brother, Dan’s determination knew no bounds as evidenced by the following quote that he stated often:
“Once a task has begun, never leave it ‘til it’s done.
Be that labor great or small,
Do it well or not at all.”
This determination led Dan to join the Navy where he began his training as an engineer, focusing on helicopters which propelled him to a distinguished lifelong career at Sikorsky, where he worked primarily on the Blackhawk helicopters.
Dan was best known for his sense of humor, always ready with a quick and often inappropriate joke to bring a smile to those around him. His joy for life was evident to all who knew him.
Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife and soulmate, Judith Brewster, who passed on October 16, 2014 and is survived by his four children, Cathrine McMahon, Daniel Brewster Jr., Shannon Glorioso, and Heath Brewster, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength and lightheartedness.
The family will hold a private service at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown Connecticut on December 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider spending time with loved ones and sharing a happy memory with a touch of "Grampi Dan" edgy humor.
