Anthony Walczak, of Clinton, CT and recently of Academy Point, Mystic, CT., passed away peacefully on Friday February 4, 2011 at Middlesex Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Unit after fighting multiple illnesses over the past 18 months. He was the devoted and loving husband to his late wife of 66 years Rose Scarpinato Walczak who passed away on May 30, 2009. Tony was born in Masbeth, NY on January 12, 1917 to the late Andrew and Mary Walczak and brother of the late Theodore and Natalie Walczak and Diane Reynolds. He is survived by his 3 loving children and their families: Patricia Walczak De Barbieri, and her husband Roy L. De Barbieri, Esq. of Madison, CT; Robert J. Walczak and Almarie Shultz Walczak of Palm City, FL; and Victoria Walczak-McHugh and Thomas McHugh of Westerly, RI. He was the beloved grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Noreen Walczak, Aimee Walczak Poirier, Robert J. Walczak Jr., and Edward [Ted] Walczak De Barbieri, Esq. and 1 great granddaughter Alexandra Walczak Frilling. He is survived and well loved by his sister Pauline Thomsen of Torrington, CT., and his brother Robert Schappert, Jr. of Houston, TX, and by his 3 sisters and brothers-in-law and many loving nieces and nephews. Tony was a proud WW II Veteran of the “Sea Bees” of the U.S. Navy attached to the Marines; a 40 year self employed dress contractor and manufacturer; and in retirement was an avid golfer, gardener, fisherman and ‘jack-of-all trades’. He was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Clinton, and a long time member and past Chaplin of the Clinton Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where “Tony’s Girls” was created in honor of his work to continue to include the widows of deceased Veterans in VFW activities. He measured the success of his long and happy life by his relationships with his family and his friends and his ability to provide for those he loved.
Calling hours are at Swan Funeral Home in Clinton, CT on Sunday February 6th from 1-5:00 p.m. and 9-10:30 on Monday February 7th. Family and friends are invited to gather for a mass in celebration of his life on Monday February 7,at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton, CT followed by a luncheon reception in the Parish Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Middlesex Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Unit, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT, 06457-3654.
