Andrew Karl Schreiber, Sr, 89, widower of Rosalie M. (Jennings) Schreiber, formerly of Clinton, CT., passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at his son's home, in Ashby, MA. He had recently moved, to live and be cared for, by his son, Andrew, Jr and his wife.
Andy was born on December 1, 1928, in Clifton, NJ to the late parents Alfonso Schreiber and Lucy ( Schor) (Schreiber) John, residing in NJ and CT, before settling in Westbrook, CT in 1938. He attended and graduated (1946) The Morgan School, where he lettered in several sports before he met and married his high school sweetheart, Rosalie May Jennings.
Mr. Schreiber was last employed by, Wilcox & Daughter's Fuel in Westbrook, CT, retiring in 1991. He had previously worked for over 20 years at Burr, Brock-Hall, and Knutsen Dairy's.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Air Force as an Aircraft Radio Mechanic, with Honorable Discharge. He had recently been a member of the Hilliard-Jones-Cookson American Legion Post #66, Clinton, CT., as well as being active in their Honor Guard in previous years.
He enjoyed playing sports of all varieties, and in his later years, would either watch or listen to games whenever broadcast. He was an avid New York Yankee, and New York Giants fan. He enjoyed: bowling, snow skiing, water skiing, boating, fishing, gardening, and listening to Swing music. Not to mention time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Andy will be most remembered for his many years as a dedicated Coach. Coaching nearly all of his son, Andrew, Jr's baseball and football teams, throughout elementary and, Jr. / Sr., high school years.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by: A son, Andrew K. Schreiber, Jr. and his wife Patricia A. Cushion of Ashby, MA. A daughter, Deborah A. (Schreiber) Trapani and her husband Steven of Northford, CT. 7 grandchildren: Shannon (Scott) Ricker, Krystyn (Jay) Mansfield, Sara Paz, Alison Sansone, and Katelyn (Matt) Addonizio all of MA. Dr. Linda Trapani of OH, and Thomas Trapani of FL. 8 great-grandchildren: Amanda Mills, Rachael & Brody Paz, Evelyn Mansfield, Kalvin, Ethan and Wesley Sansone, and Mikayla Rosalie May Addonizio all of MA. He is also survived by a cousin Arlene Becker of FL, a sister-in-law, Lois McNeely of Long Beach, CA, and a brother-in-law, Arthur Jennings and his wife Joanne of Clinton, CT. Also, many Nieces, Nephews, Neighbors, and dear friends. Andrew's family would like express their deep gratitude to the UMass Memorial Hospice Staff for their great care and guidance.
And, to all the family, friends, neighbors in their acts of kindness and support during his illness.
Funeral services, Service of Remembrance will be on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11AM, Swan Funeral Home 80 E. Main St. Clinton, CT. Followed immediately by the funeral Liturgy at the Holy Advent Church, then internment at Indian River Cemetery.
