Vivian L. Vaughn was born on October 13, 1937 to the late Lilly and Samuel Simms. She was the last of fourteen children born from this union in St. Joe, Louisiana. And She was baptize at an early age at Salvation Baptist Church of St. Joe, Louisiana.
Vivian attended school in St. Joe and ultimately moved to New Orleans and during her time there held various positions. During her stay in New Orleans, she met Sylvester DeSpenza and from this union her only daughter was born Marilyn DeSpenza.
She relocated to Cleveland, Ohio in the 1950’s during the great migration to obtain work and prosperity. Vivian held several jobs that included housekeeping, factory and textile work for over 50 years. The longest position she held was at Even Cut Abrasives for after more than twenty years she retired. She loved staying busy and found part-time work after retirement at ABM Corporations in various positions.
During her time in Cleveland, she met her husband Laurel Vaughn for which they entered a lengthy and loving relationship and from this union her only son Kenneth was born. In her early years’ she was a member of Eastern Star Hadassa #5 Queen Esther Chapter under the leadership of Mother Townsley. Later in life she joined “Ladies on The Move Travel Club”, taking numerous trips to Las Vegas and other gambling destinations.
Vivian enjoyed entertaining, cooking, fishing and sports. She loved to cook and treasured her time in the kitchen making great dishes to share with her family. Although she loved most sports, she especially loved football and was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan.
Vivian departed this life on April 24, 2023 as the last living sibling. She was proceeded in death by her husband Laurel, daughter Marilyn, goddaughter LuAnn; brothers Edward, John Earl, Louis, James and Robert; sisters Odette, Mildred, Nettie, Clotilde, Bertha, Beatrice and Florence. Close friend Lee.
Vivian leaves to cherish her memory her son; Kenneth (Grace), granddaughter Tanese, grandsons Jerome (Denise) and Eric (April), a host of nieces and nephews and friends, close friend Bennie and special friend Thad.
