Eva Cintron Caraballo

On July 4th, 2023, Eva Cintron Caraballo rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings at the tender age of 89. Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico and her husband a Republic structural steel worker relocated the family to Cleveland, Ohio in the early months of 1968. Where she resided till God called her home. Although her time on this earth will leave an insurmountable void in our lives, we find comfort in knowing that another angel is watching over us.

Eva was an exceptional wife, mother, abuela and tatarabuela to a large multigenerational family. She not only raised her children, but also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eva was an extraordinary woman who cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. Some of Eva’s favorite pastimes included music, singing, dancing, entertaining and cooking. She made all the traditional comidas puertorriqueñas such as pasteles, empanadillas, rellenos and alcapurrias to name a few.

She had a way of making you feel welcome even if you were a total stranger. Her house was known as “the neighborhood’s home away from home”. All who entered were greeted with a hot plate of food, tall glass of kool-aid or una tácita de café. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Eva loved fiercely and ensured all who crossed her threshold were safe, happy, and well-fed.

Eva was the epitome of a matriarch “La Jefa”. Through her we learned the true meaning of unconditional love and compassion. She was a woman of strong character and discipline. It was that discipline that molded us into the great people we are today. I know we each have a story or two that we can share in that regard.

Eva was a firecracker “una pistolita”. There was nothing that she couldn’t do if she put her mind to it. She was smart, sassy, witty, resourceful and, above all, resilient. Eva made sure she instilled that same fighting spirit into each and every one of us. She taught us the importance of having good values, respect and to never quit. To know Eva, love her and be loved by her meant having a true warrior fighting in your corner.

Family meant everything to her, and she meant everything to this family. Her presence will be greatly missed.

Eva is predeceased by her husband Tomas Caraballo, son Tomasito Caraballo, and grandsons; Angel and Jonathan. She is survived by her children Nilda, Violeta, Wilson (Willo), Norma, Migdalia, Eva, Margie, Wanda (Edwin), her siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Eva also left her loving mark in the lives of her 26 grandchildren and 3 generations of great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Eva will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Craciun Berry Funeral Home, 7200 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44102. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel, 3114 Scranton Rd, Cleveland, Ohio. Please meet at the funeral home on Friday by 10:00 AM to travel in procession to church. Interment at West Park Cemetery, 3942 Ridge Road, Cleveland, OH. Following interment, family and friends are invited to celebrate Eva's life at Corrigan Craciun Family Center, located at 14768 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44111.
