Susan L Herman, 80, of Beachwood, OH passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024. Born in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kline) Levine and predeceased by her brother Michael S Levine and son-in-law Howard Lederer. She grew up in Macon, Georgia and spent summers in Cleveland with the Kline Aunts and Uncles where she developed strong local roots.
A graduate of the University of Florida, she moved permanently to Cleveland in the mid 1960’s. She retired as a Director of Benefits from Nestlé USA - successfully balancing both family and career. She was never too busy to take her children’s call or schlep them to an appointment. She was known to always give her opinion and strive to do the right thing.
She is survived by devoted children, Robert (Bobby) Herman and wife Rachel, Lisa Herman Lederer and fiancé Josh, grandchildren Elyse Lederer, Brian Lederer, Hannah Herman, and Sarah Herman. Other loved ones include her former husband Stan Herman, sister-in-law Carolyn Levine, nieces Dina Nathan and Eliana Weissman, nephew Marc Levine and their respective families. Susan’s cousins in Ohio, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, California and Israel remember her vitality and warmth.
Susan was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them in person as well as virtually. An active participant in her “cousin’s club” she maintained relationships with her generational family until the end.
She was an avid reader, and over the years dabbled in many things. Mahjong, canasta, bridge, gourmet cooking and baking classes, latch hook rug making, and crocheting were undertaken at different times. Susan valued education- a legacy bestowed from her Aunt Hannah Kline (z’’l). With emotional and financial support (not to mention copious hugs and cheerleading) she ensured her children and grandchildren achieved their best. She was never more excited than when she shared in her grandchildren’s accomplishments.
Susan supported many philanthropic causes through the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and was both a Lion of Judah and lifetime Hadassah member.
