Ruth Wager (nee Joseph) passed away at home on March 3, 2019, in Beachwood, OH. Ruth was born in Cleveland on Aug. 12, 1928 to Harry and Ida Joseph. She graduated from Glenville High School in 1946. She married her late husband, William Wager, in 1951.
She worked at White Motors after high school. She re-entered the work force after her children reached school age, working in various offices in their medical billing department. She also worked in retail selling women's clothing.
Family was the center of Ruth’s life. She derived great pride and joy from her children and grandchildren. Her children’s friends were always welcome in her home. Thanksgiving was her favorite time of year. She cooked and baked for weeks, preparing a major feast for her family and extended relatives. Friends would come over for dessert and stay long into the evening.
In middle age, fitness became an important part of her life and she became an avid tennis player, swimmer and walked four miles most days.
She loved to talk, was friendly to everyone, and strangers quickly became friends.
She loved writing poetry and often honored her friends with poems on their birthdays.
She gave back to her community by volunteering at Montefiore and Hillcrest Hospital.
Ruth is survived by her children Steven Wager (Lisa Wager) of Scarsdale, NY and Sherry Wager (Mark Marshall) of Boulder, CO; grandchildren Rachel Wager, Matthew Wager, Jeffrey Marshall and Jacob Wager.
Funeral services will be held at BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1985 S. TAYLOR RD., CLEVELAND HTS. on Friday, March 8 at 11 AM. Interment Mt. Olive Cemetery (Jewish War Veterans section).
The family will receive friends FOLLOWING BURIAL UNTIL 6 PM at the residence of Peggy and Michael Wager 40 Ridgecreek Trail, Moreland Hills, OH, and on SATURDAY EVENING, MARCH 9, FROM 7 PM – 9 PM at R.H. Myers, 27200 Cedar Road, Suite 815, Beachwood, OH.
