Richard Friedman, son of the late Sam and Esther Friedman, of Aurora, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Dick was 87 years old. Dick grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he attended the University School, and he went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, where he was a member of the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. After serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean war, Dick returned to Cleveland, where he worked briefly for his father at Nottingham Steel. He then struck off on his own as a securities analyst and stockbroker, and he worked in the securities business for more than 50 years, and he accumulated many awards for his investment savvy. Dick's illness did not affect his passion for work which, like his father, he continued during his final weeks. He loved the ups and downs of the stock market, an attitude and passion that he passed on to all of his children. Dick was a man of few but deep passions, including chess, reading, classical music, Cleveland sports teams (well, the Browns did try his patience) and fly-fishing, which he pursued all over the world, from Alaska, to the Florida Keys, to Central America. Dick was involved with and a charitable contributor to Bellefaire Jewish Children's Bureau, the Make a Wish Foundation, the Achievement Centers for Children, the Special Olympics, and the Boys Club of Ohio, and he also managed the Sam and Esther Friedman Foundation. A true animal lover, Dick was active in the Geauga County Humane Society, the Berea Humane Society, and the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, and he had as many dogs as he had children, and he loved all of them with great passion. His other great passion was his loving wife of 33 years, Allyn. From the moment they met to his last breath, they laughed together through all of life's ups and downs. From the Ground Floor restaurant (where they met), to the "twin lakes" of Chesterland, to the rural paradise of Walden, love and laughter were never lacking, and they were true soul mates. Dick also valued his friendships, and he stayed close to his high school and college buddies throughout his life. His friends loved him for his sense of humor, his honesty, his poor poker skills (he was an easy mark) and his zest for life. If he was going fishing or gambling with his buddies, he would be up at the crack of dawn with a smile on his face and a song in his heart, and everything was right with the world. Dick touched everyone he met with his humor and his humility, and even at the very end of his life he was still able to make jokes about himself. Dick is survived by his former wife, Peggy Friedman, Allyn, his children Jared and Chad (who were his devoted doctors throughout his illness), Amy, Craig, Adam and Josh, and his grandchildren, Madison, Isabel, Alexandra, and Leo. May his memory be a blessing! Services will be held Sunday, November 12 at 11 AM at the BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1985 S. Taylor Rd, Cleveland Heights, OH. Interment Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence 441-19 White Tail Dr. Aurora (Waldon) SUNDAY FOLLOWING SERVICES AND INTERMENT UNTIL 6 PM, MONDAY 7 PM-9 PM. We apologize for the inconvenience. son of the late Sam and Esther Friedman, of Aurora, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. The family will receive friends at the residence, 441-19 White Tail Dr., Aurora (Waldon) SUNDAY FOLLOWING SERVICES AND INTERMENT UNTIL 6 PM, MONDAY 7 PM-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the Children's Achievement Center or the Geauga County Rescue Village.
