One of the many MARC Floor Hockey Memories Mr. Weinberg helped create - etched in my memory forever

Phil, Anita, and I went to Cleveland State Univ. together in 1968. Like many, we lost touch with each other over the years. I am truly sorry to learn of Phil's death. My sincere condolences and sympathies to Anita and their children. Phil was a tremendous friend and will be missed. I am very pleased to have known him.  Rest in peace.

Mr. Weinberg took over my 6th grade class when my teacher left & married. I always heard that this was his first year teaching. I fondly remember him. It must have been tough for him to step in when a much loved teacher left. I remember him allowing my mom to come to class with cupcakes, so my class could celebrate my birthday with me. My condolences to his friends, family & many former students.

Mr. Weinberg was a remarkable teacher, an impactful leader, and a kind soul. He was my 5th grade science teacher, and I'll never forget the innovative, exciting ways he engaged our class. I remember when he showed us a visual representation of the Geologic Time Scale by counting out pieces of toilet paper, selecting a few lucky kids (myself included) to become Paleozoic, Mesozoic, or Cenozoic mummies. His warm, playful demeanor created a joyful environment for learning.

Additionally, when I was one of the few girls participating  in MARC indoor hockey, he always enthusiastically cheered me on, complementing and encouraging  my play. His praise gave me the confidence to ignore gender dynamics and play fearlessly. That experience has followed me throughout my life and made me  who I am today. 

When I began teaching at Mayfield, I was lucky enough to run into Mr. Weinberg a few times and catch up. He was such a kind, encouraging person. I will always remember him and the impact he had on my life. To his family, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope memories like mine will bring you comfort during this difficult time.

Truly heart broken at this news! He was truly the best teacher every student was blessed to have! He got me through some hard times and always believed in me to the fullest! I was in his 5th grade class on 9/11 I’ll never forget it he was the reason are class was calm and at ease that day! I will forever remember how erosion works because of his lesson using fig newtons. He used to private tutor me  and loved my Nana’s pasta dinner! I always loved seeing him as I got older when he was a substitute as well as just seeing him at the grocery store or out to dinner! He had so many students but always remembered me and said hello with a hug. I will hold him in my heart forever! Rest in Peace Mr. Weinburg

Mr. Weinberg founded and led the intramural "floor hockey" league through the Mayfield Area Recreation Council.  Every Saturday in the winter from second grade through my senior year of high school,  I gathered with many of my closest friends to play floor hockey.  

It became an institution in our adolescents lives.  We all looked forward to MARC Floor Hockey Saturdays--creating rivalries with our closest friends, cheering on our teammates from the stands in the middle school gym, talking up the games throughout the week, and most of all, spending time together through endless laughs.  We didn't appreciate it at the time, but every game, every goal, and every laugh was due to the hard work and dedication of Mr. Weinberg.

When we heard the news of Mr. Weinberg's passing, we all shared pictures and memories of our old floor hockey days.  "Those were some of the best Saturdays," one friend remarked.  He was right.  Those floor hockey Saturdays hold a special place in all of our hearts and minds.  

We'd never be able to say thank you enough for Mr. Weinberg's hard work and dedication, and for creating those times and memories for us.  But to all of his family and friends, we hope you know that his time, effort, and leadership are deeply appreciated.

From all of the former MARC Floor Hockey players: Thank you, Mr. Weinberg.  We'll miss you.

I meet Mr Weinberg as a substitute working at Millridge Elementary.  I knew if he was the teacher,  we would make through the day. I loved his magic tricks and stories.  He will be missed tremendously. My condolences to the family.

A very special teacher I will never forget . One of the first teachers that showed how much fun science could be . I will never forget making an ABC book for my pet rock and a house for my pet rock smoothie . He even taught us how our pet rocks can do tricks . I remember the poem I made about Saturn the planet still to this day . Thank you for showing me and so many students the love of science.

I am shocked and  heartbroken to hear of the passing of a great man…a phenomenal teacher and coach…a man who has earned the love and respect of those who’s lives he touched…his students, his team, and all their families…like mine.    Rest easy now, Mr. Weinberg…you deserve it…❤️

My sincere condolences to the family. 
There are so many wonderful memories our family has from Millridge Elementary.  Among some of the best are with Phil. He was an AWESOME teacher, friend & coach.  I wish I could go to one more of his wonderful floor hockey games. 
He put his heart into everything he did, and left a lasting impression and smile on my heart for who he was and how he cared. I am so saddened by his passing.

I had to post twice because I couldnt fit it all in one! He also taught me some very valuable life lessons like how March madness works, how to not be disappointed at Cleveland sports teams, you just have to lower your expectations a little bit! He also would tell me, "health is wealth. If you and your family have their health, you have it all." He is so right. And dunkin' donuts coffee is a necessity!  I would always thank him before he would leave and tell him you are the best! Because he really is.  I feel truly blessed  and grateful to know Phil Weinburg and to have the opportunity to get to know him on a personal level. He is so very special and I will miss him terribly. My heart goes out to the Weinburg family and pray they find comfort in knowing how much of a positive impact he made on so many people's lives. Sincere and deepest condolences and praying for strength during this difficult time.

I've had the great honor and pleasure of working with Phil for the past three years when he would come in and volunteer two days a week in the Synergy classroom at Millridge Elementary. I genuinely looked forward to the days he would come in for many reasons.  He was so helpful, it made my job a bit easier. For example, when students were working on a craft that involved cut-up paper. He would walk around with the recycling bin and call himself scrap man,  which became another name the kids would call him as soon as he grabbed the bin! He would also grab the broom and dust pan to clean up after a messy craft/project and would tell us, "Don't tell my wife about this, okay?" Working with large numbers of kids, simple clean up doesn't seem that significant, but it made a huge difference. His willingness to help with whatever was so thoughtful and appreciated. The thing I appreciated the most was that he always made laugh. If I was having a bad day, Phil could make it better just by being there. The students felt the same way, I could tell by the look  on their faces when they saw him. If he missed a day, which was extremely rare, the kids would immediately ask where he was. He had the ability to get the attention of a classroom of 1st and 2nd graders and have every single one sit and listen to him,  which is pretty much magical! Students would be amazed at his card tricks, and I was amazed he could engage every single kid by just talking.  I would ask him , "Phil, how did you do that?" To which he humbly shrugged his shoulders and said, "just experience." I knew it was something else. It was because he is so special. He was so personable and considerate and took an interest in people's lives.

My sincere condolences. Phil was an incredible teacher. Any grade. Any subject. He could do it. So many people benefitted from this one man.

Mr. Weinberg was my 5th grade teacher about 30 years ago. He was the best teacher I ever had and I have thought of him fondly over the years. He went out of his way to make every experience memorable. Back then, he took students to lunch or dinner as reward for their hard work and I remember my meals with him at Wendy’s and The Spaghetti Company and feeling so special! I will always remember him reading Where the Red Fern Grows out loud to the class and him pausing at the end to collect himself when the puppies died. It’s my favorite book still to this day. He gave each student a copy of the book and I still have mine. He went out of his way to make sure we had a memorable year with beautiful memories. I have no doubt  he was the same with his family, a very loving father and grandfather. Sending so much love to the Weinberg family.

Phil was one of the kindest men I knew. My son used to go to Phil’s home to play basketball with “Mr. Weinberg,” not his son! He loved that man. And we loved him for his commitment to his students, neighbors, neighbor’s kids, family and especially his devotion to his wonderful wife! They were so perfect for each other. May his memory be of a blessing❣️He will be missed by many - Anita, especially at dinner time.
