Uncle Mike was always a caring and easy going person. It was great to talk to him at picnics or Chanukah parties. He will be missed very much. 

Today I went to my Uncle Mike's funeral.  I was very moved with the service, and remembrances from his daughters. I spent the day reflecting on Uncle Mike and the family.  You are all so special to me. I cherish my memories with Aunt Roz and Uncle Mike. When they moved into their apartment, I often visited them. We chatted about their day.  On his birthday, I would always bring a chocolate cake and reminisce about old times.  

It was always a special time when we would have July 4th picnics and Hanukkah parties together.  Uncle Mike was the kindest, warm, friendly, caring, and accepting person.  He never complained and always had a smile on his face.  I cherish the time I spent with Uncle Mike and Aunt Roz.  I was always happy to see them.  I loved Uncle Mike so much, and he will be missed. 

How well I remember sitting on the steps of his parents home,
Aunt Ida and Uncle Isser,  and just talking to Mike.   The other kids weren't born yet so it was nice to have Mikey to  talk to.  I also remember the picture his Mom had of him in his Marine's uniform that sat on a lamp table in the living room.  I thought he was quite handsome.
At Uncle Lou's wedding to Aunt Della, I sat in the first row for a family wedding photograph because I was only 5 and two short to be in a back row.  Mikey sat down next to me and his brother, Dave, on my other side.  My Mom, Dorothy,
was hiding in the last row because she had my brother, Lowell, who was not ready to be born yet. 
I am so sorry Mikey was taken from his wonderful family and friends even at 91.  He was a kind and gentle man and is missed already.  We love you Mike and will think of you often.

You know, I have never met a man in my life, who has never said a bad word to me about anyone or even anything. Never, only my Uncle Mike. So gentle and unassuming and kind. Standing next to him and talking with him actually calmed me down, as I tend to be on the hyper side. 
But I always felt his energy, and it was always positive and tranquil. 
His wife, Roz,  probably had a lot to do with his demeanor- she, herself is as nice as can be; and I remember somewhere deep in my brain’s memory when Uncle Mike brought her into our family. She fit right in!  Strange I remember that- I don’t have a clue how old I was.  But Aunt Roz, you know how very sorry I am for your loss.  And you married a Marine- wow!  Maybe that’s why I always looked up to him also, after all, I was Navy. 
And my regrets to Uncle Mike’s three lovely daughters. As cousins, I know you all drove him crazy. The stories are endless!  Again, that Marine in him probably got him through your teen years. 
And even after raising three daughters, he was still a gentle giant. I have one daughter- I can’t imagine how you raise three!  But Mike and Roz did- and to all three of my beautiful girl cousins my heart  feels your loss. I am sad with you, and although I cannot be at the graveside service, I promise that I will be praying with you on that day and at that time.  And here’s a hug for all of you— ready,,,  HUG!!!

My cousin Marc Pollock described my uncle Mike to a tee! I am proud to have one of his paintings hanging in my house that he painted for my parents, Kurt and Jean Leyser. It is a picture of a bunch of Lillies! When I pass it will go to my granddaughter Lily Jean (after my Mother) Bortins.

What a special man! My memories of my Uncle Mike were mostly at holiday gatherings, especially the Hanukah parties.  Mike had a very calm demeanor, and anyone that sat and spoke with him quickly noticed how genuine a person he was.  These qualities brought him respect by all who met him.  I'm so glad he was able to live into his 90's to enjoy all that life had to offer, and to experience the joy of grandchildren.  He will be sorely missed by so many.
