Michael, who was affectionately known as Papa and Papa-bear to his children and grandchildren, passed away after a brave battle with cancer.
Michael grew up in Shaker Heights, attended The Ohio State University, and started his new family in Cleveland Heights.
In 1971, Aetna Life and Casualty made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. He moved his family to the mountains and sunshine of Northern California. It was there that he cultivated a deep love for nature and the outdoors; a passion he would later share, leading hikes for the Mt. Tamalpais Interpretive Association. A great storyteller, he quickly became the most popular hike leader on the mountain.
Wanting to be closer to his aging parents and family, Michael moved back to Cleveland in 1991. He instilled his love for nature in his children and grandchildren and, on any given day, could be found blazing new trails in Cleveland Metro Parks.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Seema Preisler and sister Renee Preisler. He is survived by his three children, Stacy Allegro, Bill Preisler, and Jordan (Lisa) Preisler, and his grandchildren Shayna and Griffin Preisler, and Sheldon (Bill’s black lab).
Those who wish may make a contribution to the Cleveland Metro Parks
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bkbmc.com for the Preisler family.
