My deepest condolences to Mark's children Matthew and Seth, brothers Laurie and Steve, and all of Mark's family. Mark was a good guy and I will always keep fond thoughts of him from our growing up years.

I only ever met Mark Butler a handful of times. I know one was at a tailgate our family hosted at Northwestern, Seth’s Alma Mater. He simply could not have been more charming, or more grateful to be there, and with his son.

Another was at Seth’s wedding to Sarah. We were both suited-up, and sharing a quiet drink at the venue’s bar. I confessed that I was a pretty introverted and quiet kid - until I met his son. That Seth helped a shy young man come into his own, outside his comfort-zone, & out of his shell. That I wouldn’t be who I am today without him. And I remember him telling me, in response: “Thank you, Jon. That means an awful lot. You’re good people.”

Allow me to say the same. Mark Butler was good people. I’m glad to have known him - even if only briefly. He made an impression. And his legacy lives on, by those dearest to him.
