Mark Ari Blumenthal, 63, of Columbus Ohio passed away on January 11 at his home in New Albany. Born in Cleveland, and raised in Lyndhurst, he was a 1979 graduate of Brush High School and 1984 graduate of The Ohio State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in economics and insurance. His love of business and people was sparked through caddying at Oakwood Country Club as a teenager. Mark followed his passion by pursuing a career in the insurance and financial industry in Columbus. He worked twenty-eight years at New England Financial and the last eleven as the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advanced Sales at 21st Century Financial. He traveled yearly to attend the annual Leader’s Conference for financial service advisors. Mark was passionate about his work, considering his clients and associates as family. He helped individuals and business owners build financial freedom, serving as a lifelong resource for each client. Through his dedication, he built a community and left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Mark was a devoted son to his parents, Linda and Phil Blumenthal. He inherited his curiosity and passion for work from his father, being a people person from his mother, and his unconditional love and dedication to family from both. He was a devoted father to Arrie and Zach Zimmerman for whom he went above and beyond to help and support. He maintained a close relationship with his ex-wife, Michele, continuing to celebrate holidays and special occasions together. He was also a doting dog father to Cooper, his Cavachon. In recent times, he developed a caring relationship with his neighbor, Limor.
Mark enjoyed the camaraderie he found at the Columbus Country Club and the Athletic Club of Columbus. He stayed active through workouts, tennis, and golf, and most recently developed a passion for pickleball. He relaxed by spending summers by the pool, visiting the beach at Lake Worth, traveling through earned work achievements, and delighting in fine dining. Some might consider Mark a foodie. He loved to entertain family, friends, and clients while exploring a variety of restaurants throughout the city. His absence will leave a noticeable void at his favorite restaurant, Moretti’s, as he could eat Italian food for every meal.
Mark is survived by his mother, Linda Blumenthal, his brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Eileen Blumenthal. He was predeceased by his father, Philip Blumenthal. He is also survived by his children, Arrie and Zach Zimmerman, and his ex-wife, Michele Blumenthal. Additional loved ones include his extended family: aunts Helen Berman and Marianne Grabenstetter, Uncle Don Grabenstetter, and his first cousins Steven (Sygi) Berman, Michael (Amy) Berman, Sheryl Berman (Rob Malcolm), Melissa (Richard) Lipnick, Lisa Grabenstetter (Evan Jensen), Emily Grabenstetter, and Warren Grabenstetter and a great many other loving cousins with whom he is very close. He will also be greatly missed by many friends, and business associates, especially Columbus friends, Michael and Dana Isaacs, who were not related by blood but were very much family.
