Dr. Larry Fred Biales passed away December 12, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Rhoda (nee Wolfeld); devoted father of Brian (Franca) Biales, Brad (Miriam) Biales and Cheryl Eitman; cherished grandfather of Siena, Arianna, Gioia, Joshua, Jacob, Blaise, Tanner, Saige and Jolie; dear brother of Ilene (David) Saginor and Martin Biales (deceased) (wife Sandra); former father-in-law of Scott Eitman; dear friend and companion of Marilyn Nudelman.
Born to parents Henry (Hank) Biales and Anne (Dolinsky) Biales, Larry grew up in Cleveland Heights. He attended Cleveland Heights High School, Case Western Reserve University and The Ohio State University, graduating in 1960 with a Doctor of Optometry degree.
Larry loved to play softball and played for many years before switching his passion to golf. Many of Larry's closest and life-long friends were his friends from high school, college, and his teammates from his softball team.
After marrying Rhoda and graduating from OSU, Larry served as a captain in the Air Force at Selfridge Air Force Base near Detroit before moving to Mayfield Heights and opening his private optometric practice in Chesterland. In 1974 the family moved to Chesterland as well, just a little over a mile from his office. He was known by many in town as "Dr. B".
Larry would come home for lunch with Rhoda almost every day. Larry became a lifelong member of the Chesterland Kiwanis club, serving at one point as its President. He and the family always worked at the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, and he was one of their best Christmas Tree salespeople as well. He was also an active member and past President of the Ohio Optometric Association.
Larry's greatest passions included his wife of 53 years Rhoda, traveling and spending special time with friends and family, planning extended family vacations and gatherings, playing golf, grilling steaks, and enjoying his daily 5 o'clock martinis.
